STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD McHenry high school's debate team has once again displayed its out standing ability in tournament competition. Since Christmas break, McHenry's debaters have brought home a substantial number of trophies. At their first meet of the new year, the team traveled to Elk Grove high school, where McHenry's novice debaters swept their division. The pair of Pam Bradley and Laura Dworniczek took firstof 51 teams. The novice pair of Ron Naus and Suzy Wipper captured third place and individual speaker trophies were awarded to Laura Dworniczek and Ron Naus. . On Jan. 12, several debaters traveled to Crystal Lake high school to participate in the Fox Valley conference speech tourney. In the extemporaneous speaking division, three of the six finalists were from McHenry. Joe Gattone, senior at East, captured the conference first place title. His debate partner, Jeff Gealow, took second place trophy in that division and Ron Naus, sophomore at West, captured sixth place award. v At Wheeling high school, Jm, 15, once again the novice debaters swept the division. Bradley and Dworniczek received second place team trophy, expanding their overall record to 10-2. The novice team of Elaine. Robbins and Todd Weiler (both sophomores at East) took the third place team trophy iir the same competition, extending their overall record to 29-6. Jeff Bjorn, West campus junior, took the fourth place speaker award, out of 76 other competitors. The McHenry tfeam will next travel to Grayslake and Libertyville. These and several other tourneys will take them to the IHSA Qualifying tour nament in late February. The Kishwaukee Trail chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announced its sponsorship of a new Junior American Citizens club at its Jan,. 24 meeting held at the Woodstock home of Mrs. Lela Boerner. The new JAC club is actually composed of six groups since the six first grade classes at Ringwood school are participating with Mrs. Ferol Tomlinson, Learning Center director of that school, as their leader. One hundred twenty-seven students have already received free membership pins and cards supplied by NSDAR. The Kishwaukee Trail chapter is presenting the Ringwood JAC with an American flag and banner. Mrs. Tomlinson has submitted an entry in the Special Projects division of the JAC annual contest. The Thanksgiving Pilgrim project in volved all the children with the Offer Prayer For Revival Several members of Maranatha Assembly of God in McHenry have opened their homes one night per week for the purpose of praying for a spiritual awakening in the McHenry area. It is their belief that if Christians will humble themselves, pray and seek God's face, they will hear from heaven and see a mighty spiritual revival. Seven separate homes throughout the McHenry area will be hosting these prayer times. Fasting is also being encouraged and therefoj^ no refreshments are being served. Anyone concerned about revival for McHenry is invited to participate. Membership in JAC is open to all' youth, preschool through high school. Clubs may be organized wherever there are children whether in school or out. Scout troops may be JAC clubs*' if they devote part of their program to patriotism and use the JAC materials.
