MCCULLOMLAKE Dawn Miller 385-4901 Millers Get To See Bozo Show On Wednesday, Jan. 19, Shawn, Ryan, Joy, Mom Miller, grand mother, Lois Parenti and Ronnie Yates, Kelly Yates &nd her friend Debra ail rode in the Miller station wagon to the WGN studio to appear on the Bozo show. The tickets took 11 years to make it to the Yates* home. The show was taped that day to be shown on Friday, Jan. 28., Six-year-old Joy Miller was chosen to play the Bozo Buckets. She made it to bucket number three and won many wonderful prizes. The clown ' Cookie" shook all of our hands on our way out of the studio, along with each of us receiving an 8x10 color picture of Bozo. It was quite an exciting event; one that won't be forgotten soon. NOISE DISTURBANCE Complaints have come in from Lake Shore drive residents about a running motor that is interrupting television service along that street. It has been interfering with the noon news and also evening hours. Many people do enjoy watching TV, so could we please remember our manners and not disturb our neighbors. If you must run a motor, why net stagger the time and run it less often. GET WELL WISHES Elma Nelson had surgery recently. We hope that she will be feeling like her old self very soon. You are in our thoughts Elma, for a speedy recovery. BOARD MEETING It was stated that the annual Fish Derby was a success at the Jan. 25 Village Board meeting. Many Con servation club members were present in the audience to question whether another organization was indeed going to hold another fish derby this winter. The club feels that one derby a year is enough for the lake, besides all the hours, time and labor that club members donate to the preservation of McCullom Lake. The matter was then discussed between the two organizations elsewhere. Ordinance No. 4-B, which amends Ordinance No. 4 and No. 4-A, was unanimously passed. This ordinance deals with the creation of a police department. Also, discussion followed about Ordinance Np. 71. All vehicles, trailers included, must display current license plates, even if the item in question is for sale. Easement trees on Maple Hill were cut down and there was a complaint that it ruined the appearance of the street. Board members who have seen it, stated that it is an improvement. I guess it's true, "Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder." There will be a special Revenue Sharing meeting on Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m., just a half hour before the regular meeting. Why not try to at tend? CLERK'S HOURS There will be new office hours for February. The clerk's office will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2 through 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. If these days are not convenient for you, call 385-2211 for an appointment. The 1984 vehicle stickers are to be purchased and displayed by March 31 or there will be a late charge and you may receive a ticket. The price of vehicle stickers is the same as last year: cars, $10; A, B, or RV plates, $15; C-D plates, $30; E and higher plates, $100; and motorcycles, $6. Also, if you own a boat and plan on taking it out on the lake, you must display a boat sticker which costs $3 the first year and $1 for every year thereafter. There are 10 boat posts down at the lake which can be rented for $7 a space. Space rental is MCHENRY SHORES Nino Keen 344-2665 Maxons Welcome New Baby Girl Congratulations to our neighbors Russ and Karen Maxson on the birth earlier this month of their new baby girl, Candace. JOHNSBURG Diane Berlin Library Opening Is Successful > The Johnsburg District Library, which opened Nov. 15, has ex-" perienced a very successful first two months of operation. During this short time the library has issued a total of 1,147 library cards to patrons of all ages, and has checked out 3,819 books and other materials. These figures would seem to indicate a favorable reception by the people living within the library service area. However, the library has many other services available than just the books on its shelves. Through the interlibrary loan network of the Northern Illinois Library system it is possible to borrow almost any book which a person might want. And books are not the only things which can be borrowed. The interlibrary loan system makes it possible to obtain records, film- strips, art reproductions, magazine articles, 16mm films from a large film collection, large print materials, services for the visually handicapped and learning disabled, video tape cassettes, and the answers to almost any reference question a person might want to ask. So, if the library doesn't have what you want, it can probably get it for you. Among other services which are available at the library is the public photocopier. For a small charge it is possible to copy papers, books, magazines, pictures, drawings, plans, etc., up to a size of 11" by 17", as well as regular letters and legal sizes. Also, the library is starting a pre school story hour and in February will be starting a community film program. Contact the library for more information about the film program. There is still some confusion as to who is eligible to obtain a Johnsburg District Library card at no charge. Any person living within the boun daries of the proposed library district may get a card and since the John sburg school district boundaries are the same as the library district, it is relatively easy to determine if this library is providing service to you. It's the measurement of time derived from observation of the meridian transits of the stars and differs slightly from solar time. The mean sidereal day, for example is only 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.09 seconds. The time required for the earth to make one complete revolution around the sun is the sidereal year. The sidereal year is 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes and 9-5 seconds. Every fourth year, as the reader knows, the extra hours-over and above the 365 days, are com bined into an added day-in Leap Year. But the effect of this small time divergence has no noticeable bearing on our weather. CUB SCOUT PACK 454 The pack held its January meeting last week and an announcement was HAPPY 40th Neighbors and friends of Jerry Turner surprised him on his return from work one day last week. He was greeted by a lighted sign that read: Happy 40th, Jerry. Honk as.you pass by. Long before Jerry saw the sign, others became aware of the greeting as honks persisted through the af ternoon. The Turners reside on Quincy road in Rolling Acres, in the Johnsburg area. In old restaurant lingo, "Eve with the lid on" was a piece of apple pie.
