Head Mental Health' League College Honors Sue Malenius A Top Student Sue Malenius the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. Edwin Malenius of 2801 Apache trail, McHenry, has achieved the Dean's list of the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sue received this distinction for achieving a grade point average placing her in the top 20 percent of the college sophomore class. She resides in the 4-H House for girls on the campus. She said, "The excellent teachers, education and training taught at McHenry East high school helped make this all possible". Top Students Named At NIU Several area students have been named among top students at Nor­ thern Illinois university in DeKalb. IN RIPON CONCERT The Ripon college orchestra, in, conjunction with 15 local children1 ages 3 to 15 who play instruments by the Suzuki method, performed two- concerts Feb. 26, at Ripon college.^ Krista Kaefer, a sophomore at Ripon,, played with the orchestra. New officers and board were recently Installed at the annual gieeting and brunch in Algonquin. When the annual meeting of the Mental Health Resource League for McHenry County was held recently in Algonquin, Suzanne Beam of McHenry, was named president. Other officers elected were first vice- president, Beverly Thomas, Crystal Lake, second vice-prcsident, Sheila Aleckson, McHenry; treasurer, Voni Ferguson; corresponding secretary, Martha Peters^ jecording secretary, Sharon O'Dwyer, all of McHenry. Proposal chairperson Sally Stallard is from Woodstock and scholarship chairperson is Judy Zid from McHenry. Directors on the board of the league include, from Algonquin, Monica Pratt; Woodstock, Karen Wells; Crystal Lake, Carolyn Wotring; Sara Verseman, Diane Davis and T. J. Braun; and from McHenry, Wynne Roy, Barb Hajeck, Barb Winn, Char Buchand Char Mowery. Hie purpose of this over 200- member organization is to provide financial support and aid to mental health agencies and institutions in the county. The league is concerned with the problems and prevention of mental illness, alcoholism, mental retardation, drug spouse, and child abuse and developmental disabilities. In 1962 the Mental Health Resource league funded nearly 20,000 in grants and scholarships to agencies throughout the county. Most of the financial resources come from the league's annual "Fair Diddley" day in Woodstock each 'spring. This year the fair will be held on the Woodstock City Square Sunday, May 15, from noon until 5 p.m. Fair Diddley is an old fashioned country fair with over 250 juried craft and fine arts exhibits, shows, and continuous entertainment. Visitors to the fair will be able to find food, books, baked goods, children's toys and clothes for sale. Other activities the league sponsors are some produce and grocery retail "shop and share" days, "Home for the Holidays", an autumn fashion show with a luncheon and holidy gift boutique, and an annual recipe book .collection* In the future, league members are committed to continue raising money, becoming more in­ volved in volunteer work, and providing educational seminars for county residents. PTO Sponsors Shop And Share Landmark Parent Teachers organization will hold a Shop and Share fund-raising program March 28, 29 and 30. By shopping at the designated store on one of those days, 5 percent of the total purchases, ex­ cluding tax, will be donated to the organization. Landmark PTO will use the money generated by their Shop and Share to provide for the children a cultural enrichment performance and to cover other projects at the school. Anyone interested in helping Landmark PTO by shopping on those dates will need a Shop and' Share identification card which will be sent home with each child in advance of the scheduled dates of March 28, 29 and 30.
