He remembers. I don't. Did he say 40? With such a spirited group cooperating to make the event a success, I don't think Father Tranel has much to worry about in the parish activities department. You had a great idea, Kathy. Being at St. Patrick's Day celebrant, I had never been invited to a St. Joseph's Day party before. Slate Hedging Seminar March 25 TV GUIDE HHPS channels. All those shows. I learned she is all wrapped up with her grandchild. I'm sure she won't spoil the little darling. Not much! Barb Weber came to our door with a shamrock plant. With Alvina's tender care, it will be a treasure for a long time. One thing didn't work out as planned. Our Irish girl friend, Lucille Geraty, had her corned beef and cabbage at noon and didn't stray out that evening. If I am still writing this column next year, my St. Patrick's effort will start off with a contribution from Mrs. Bob Blaney. It is headed: "IRISH, HE IS" Had a most interesting letter from "Zeke". Besides wishing us a Happy St. Patrick's Day and his usual Chamber of Commerce spiel about the wonders of Arizona, he wrote some little gems. I would like to print the entire letter, but he doesn't look with favor on such actions on my part. Our mention of Alvera Heimer Gorman of Grand Junction, Colorado reminded Zeke that a bank in that city is run by an acquaintence named E. L. Bacon. Also noted Alvera and he were in the same class in high school. G'wan! She isn't that old. The ever popular Gary Collins coached his Crystal Lake South basketball team into the select 16 in the State before being eliminated. Many of us were pulling and praying for Gary. We don't care who he beats as long as it isn't Ken Ludwig's Warriors. Basketball coaches should go straight to heaven. They suffer enough on this earth. Mary Nolen noted how we asked for help so she sent the following which was written by one of her classmates 50 years ago. (Did you say 50, Mary?): v "THOUGHT FOR THE DAY" When things go wrong as they sometimes do And the road you're trudging seems uphill; And the debts are high and the funds are low, And you want to smile but you have to sigh, And care is pressing you down a bit-- REST, if you must but don't you quit! A clipping from Larry Seborg off sportsmanship expresses my thoughts to a tee. Larry never fails to send the things I like. It is Sunday afternoon and we just returned from one heckuva shin-dig at Christ The King Church in Wonder Lake. As I told you last week, Cousin Jim's daughter, Kathy Spanbauer (backed by Father Tranel), invited us to the St. Joseph's Day feast and fun event. They had a first class entertainer treating us to lively music and song as we joined a packed house in a festive mood. It was the Italians who claimed the day so, of course, spaghetti was part of the feast. Real good. Italian songs were the order of the day until a peppery little lady, Bar bara Feilen, came to our table and said she requested an Irish song. Wow! The crowd loved it. There were Polish songs, too. Finally some German numbers. (All was not lost, Arnold.) Barbara was in charge of the big event and had parishioners of all ages lending a helping hand, swinging Kathy's husband, Mike did everything to make our day enjoyable while their children, Patrick and Laura, gave us conversation. The McHenry County Farm Bureau Women's committee plans a hedging seminar on the evening of March 25 at the Farm Bureau building, Wood stock. Farm men and women are invited to attend, bringing their banker or financial adviser to the meeting to work together toward the development of a sound financial and ' hedging program for 1983 crops. WHO KNOWS St. Patrick's Day arrived in all its glory. Our son, Jack, said we received more cards than on our birthday.» --o Somehow word got around that I am of Irish descent. One of many outstanding cards came from Colorado where Bryon, Sharon, Jason, Kale and Lisa Klontz now reside. Found a V.1.P. (Very Irish Person) pin in the doorway when we arrived home one day. Found out it was Karen Kent who left it. j Then came a framed saying: IRISH DIPLOMACY The ability to tell a man to go to hell, so that he will look forward to making the trip. With the Payment-in-Kind program • assuring farmers of a known amount of corn to be given them in exchange » < for participation in the program, it is urgent that farm men and women establish a plan to market their grain over a period of time and to do it wisely, said Mrs. Leona Luerssen, chairman of the Farm Bureau Women's committee. A specialist on hedging with the Illinois Farm Bureau marketing division will conduct the seminar. Running out of gift ideas?
