For the second straight year McHenry's Karen Karpavicius was selected as an All-McHenry County performer by Shaw Media sportswriters. Teammate Terri Blume and Theresa Hauck from Johnsburg joined her for the 1963 honor. Lori Jensen of Crystal Lake Central and Lori Karamarczyk of Harvard were the players of the years. Jensen in Class AA and Karamarczyk in Class A. It was clearly pin pointed as Harvard's year, as Dave Swengo of Harvard was chosen coach of the year. Swengo joined Karamarczyk to help Harvard sweep the top honors in both boys and girls in class A. In class AA, Scott Beutlich of Crystal Lake South was picked as the coach of the year. Karpavicius, along with Jensen were placed .on the first team. Lynn Naujokas of Crystal Lake South, Kecia Knudson of Woodstock and Karen Linden of Jacobs were the rest of the first five. Blume was placed on the second team and was joined with Dianne Pilgard of Crystal Lake Central, Michelle Zimmerman of Crystal Lake South, Michele Brown of Woodstock and Terry Boos of Cary-Grove. Hauck made the second team in class A. Two Marian players also made the all-county list. Holly Ryan made the first team and Nancy Walsh made the second team. The rest of the first team in­ cluded Tammie Dunker of Marengo, Tiffiny King of Rich­ mond, Donna Klein of Richmond and Laurie Behrens of Alden- Hebron. The second team in­ cluded Penny Harrison of Marengo, Jill Niemyer of Hun­ tley, Judy Pollack of Harvard and Sue Marks of A1 den-Hebron. Although Karpavicius missed half of the basketball season, she still finished 14th in sewing in the Fox Valley Conference with 140 points for a 12.0 scoring average. She hit 54 percent from the field and 58 percent from the free throw line. Kamavcius also averaged eight rebounds a game. Blume was the Warriors leading scorer with 144 points and a 7.0 scoring average. She was also the team's leading rebounder with a 7.0 average. Blume hit 52 percent from the line and 30 percent from the field. Hauck, on the other hand, was the Skyhawks leading scorer with a 9.6 scoring average and averaged five rebounds and three assists a game. To gain player of the year honors, one must have the statistics to go along with it. Jensen had the right statistics. She scored 18 points a game for the Central Tigers and nabbed 11 rebounds. Karamarczyk's statistics were not too bad either. She scored 17.8 points a game and averaged 9 rebounds a game to help her gain player of the year honors.
