Conservation Of Resources April 12 Program Topic [ PAGE 3 - PLA1NDEALER - FRIDAY, APRIL 8.1983 Senior Walk-In Center The public is invited to attend a University of Illinois Extension program on "Conserving Our Resources" April 12. The material will be presented by A.A. Wicklein, Community Resource Development adviser with the extension service in Will county. The program consists of slides, a discussion and questions and answers. Handouts are available. All ages from eighth grade up are expected to find this presentation helpful in forming or reinforcing their conservation philosophy. High Risk Infant Program An important aspect of the Maternal Health program and Child Health programs of the McHenry County Department of Health division of Public Health Nursing is the High Risk Infant program. The Illinois Department of Public Health Perinatal program has approved programs in a number of hospitals in the state for high risk infants and high risk mothers. According to Eileen Hanson, director of the Division of Public Health Nursing, this division is notified of the admission, weekly progress and condition at the time of discharge on all of these high risk infants. Most high risk infants in this area are from the Rockford High Risk unit. Mrs. Hanson stated that one week before discharge of a high risk infant, the Division of Public Health Nursing is notified and then makes a visit to assess the home environment, the parent's capability to meet the special needs of the infant, the parent's in­ terest in the infant and notifies the center of findings before the center discharges the infant. Additional home visits are made by the Division of Public Health Nursing staff at intervals of one week, one, three, six, twelve and eighteen months, consistently reporting back to the center. Parents having problems regarding parenting or feeding these infants, or infants having low weight gain are seen weekly by the nursing staff of the McHenry County Department of Health for several months with visiting made as frequently as in­ dicated. The Growth and Develop­ ment center works closely with the Division of Public Health Nursing staff and the High Risk center to continue follow-up and testing of these high risk infants for long periods of time. Meals are served Monday through Friday at the McHenry Walk-In Cednter beginning at 11:45 a.m. Reservations must be made by 1:30 p.m. the day before at 385-8260. The menu for the week of April 11 through April 15 is as follows: Apr. 11: Spaghetti with meat sauce, topped with grated cheese, buttered carrots, garden salad, fresh fruit in season, garlic bread, milk.
