They had pop and candy refreshments and some played the arcade games there. Before going home they went to a local burger place for cheeseburgers, fries and coke. After eating, they worked off some calories playing on the equipment out front. - > -eU 'hey made invitations for -ade Brownies in troops 407 and 464, inviting them for a visit. This will give them a chance to see what the older scouts do at their meetings. Some time was also spent that day talking about two badges they earned. EIGHTH GRANDAUGHTER Ray and Donna Rode were in South Carolina visiting daughter Colleen and ho* husband Bill Perry over the Easter holiday. It was Stephanie's third birthday March 26 so they were there to help her celebrate. They also hoped to be there for the arrival of their newest grandchild. Wouldn't you know it, 8lb., 19-inch, Ryan Elizabeth was born April 9, the day after they came home. One more grand daughter and the Rodes can have an all-girl baseball team. ANOTHER GIRL John and Kathy Blake are now the proud parents of a new baby girl, born April 6, in McHenry hospital. They named their firstborn, 8lb. 3oz. daughter, Kelli Jeanne. Paternal grandmother is Christina Blake of McHenry, maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sayles of Piano, Tex. formerly of McHenry. ONE MORE GIRL The local stork seems to be leaving only pink bundles over the area these days. A neighbor of Dave and Lori Hankins called with news on Willow. The Hankins had a little girl, born April 10, in Sherman hospital. April 27 is the day Connie Mohawk will be a year older than me (until September, at least) and Katie Hughes turns eight the same day. The purpose of the sales will be to assist area pond owners, park districts, golf courses, and homeowner associations in stocking their ponds and lakes. The first of the three sales will be held 5 at the McHenry County Farm Bureau parking lot in Woodstock from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30. All fish will be bagged with oxygen for safe transfer. The bags will be of a convenient size so as to be easily transported by car or truck. Delivery can be arranged for very large orders. Set Microcomputer Workshops At MCC Microcomputer workshops on an introductory level will be offered at McHenry County college this spring. Instructing the seminars will be Steve Mansfield, MCC full-time instructor and coordinator of the data processing program. On Friday, May 6, from 4 td 7:30 p.m. will be an Introduction to Microcomputers and Basic Programming Language seminar. All seminars will be conducted at McHenry County college. Registration can be made at the college Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. On Fridays registration hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Honorary EMT Named As proclaimed by Governor James Thompson, April 10-16 was observed as Emergency Medical Services week. In conjunction with EMS week, the Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Emergency Medical Services, has awarded honorary Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificates to citizens throughout Illinois, who although not certified in the medical sense, have provided essential support services that help make the life-saving work of the EMTs possible. The storm broke shortly after mid night after an evening of murky, unusual warm air and succeeded by two more storms with the lightning becoming nearer and more severe as the night wore on. Because of the severity of the April storm farmers and townspeople were aroused and stayed up watching their properties. The lightning struck in many places in the vicinity, but most severe damage was caused at the Bauer ice house. Frank Meyer was sworn in as constable by County Clerk Raymond Woods at Woodstock. Coming on the heels of federal in come tax payment, the oeoole of Illinois face an acid test this month when the Treasury's Second War Loan drive is on, with an objective of 13 billion dollars to be raised through sale of government securities. A substantial part of this huge-financing must be paid by people in the ordinary walks of life. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 13,1958) The Red Cross fund (hive is still $1,000 short of its quota in McHenry township and funds are needed to continue the many services rendered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by the organization. Vincent Fish, vicar and the bishop's committee of St. Paul's Episcopal church are completing final plans for the dedication of the newly completed church edifice located one mile south on Green street. The date set, April 16. will mark the second anniversary of St. Paul's official recognition as a mission in the Episcopal diocese of Chicago. Arvidson is new to the District 156 high school board, Miss Marilyn Munz was elected to District 15 board and Thomas Leahy is new to the McHenry County college board. An increase in pediatric patients has prompted the board of directors of Memorial Hospital for. McHenry County to approve plans for a new pediatrics department on the third floor. One of McHenry's oldest residents, Alfred Fruehling, who resides with his wife at 610 N. River road, observed his ninety-seventh birthday April 14. The alert Mr. Fruehling is an avid fan of the game of pinochle and plays every Tuesday afternoon. What's more, when it snows he does what every good man does-shovels it out of the way.
