BIKE-A-THON VOLUNTEERS NEEDED The American Legion is in need of volunteer helpi s for a bike-a-thon that will take place the end of May or early June. Hankering for that mile high hamburger on a bun, but counting calories? Just wrap the cooked burger in lettuce leaves and add a dill pickle slice to satisfy both taste and diet. FOURTH OF JULY PARADE With the winter-like weather we have been experiencing, it may seem like summer will never arrive this year, but we will be optomistic and start thinking of the Wonder Lake Fourth of July weekend. The Women's Club of Wonder Lake will sponsor the parade to be held Saturday, July 2. Parade organizer, as in the past few years, is the very capable Chris Niehaus, who will be seeking organizations and individuals to take active parts in the parade. Several groups have already been given their parade number, so give Chris a call at 653-9711 any evening to receive one for your group. SPECIAL DAYS Birthday greetings go to Isabell Koniarski, a resident at Valley-Hi Nursing Home, who will be celebrating her special day April 24. "Happy Birthday", Isy! SPAGHETTI DINNER The twentieth annual spaghetti dinner of Greenwood school will be held Friday evening, April 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner includes not only delicious spaghetti, but garlic bread, salad, ice cream, and coffee or milk. As always, the much looked- forward-to cake walk will be taking place, where children have the op portunity of winning some homebaked goodies supplied by Greenwood parents. Hot pretzels will also be available and the button machine will be in operation to turn a favorite photo, newspaper or magazine print into a button you can wear. Profits from the evening will go to the Community Teacher Organization (CTO), which in turn uses the money for needed equipment around the school along with entertaining plays and demonstrations for the children through-out the year. The support group for families of patients with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders will meet Wed nesday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. at Family Alliance, Inc., 248 N. Throop street, Woodstock. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, irreversible brain disease for which there is yet no known cause or treatment. Early symptoms include memory loss, disorientation, and diminishing in tellectual capabilities. These dementing diseases can and do strike at any adult age but tend to be more prevalent during retirement years. The problem families face in dealing with the long-term care of the patient and the emotional, financial, and ' social stress are immense and all too often devastating. Family support groups being organized throughout the nation offer a caring situation where family members share their problems and seek solutions together. There is no charge and the meeting is open to all friends and families of victims of Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder. For further in formation call Bobbie Fossum bet ween 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 338-3590. If you pierce the end of an egg with a pin. it is less likely to break when immersed in boiling water.
