WEEK NITES DRIVE-IN FILM & PR McHenry Area Men's 12 Inch Late Runs Lift Businessmen PATWIRTZ The Johnsburg Businessmen waited until the final two innings of their second game of a doubleheader to score eight runs and take an 11-5 victory over Lakeside Inn. The Businessmen had already dropped an 11-2 contest to the Fox Hole Tap. Game two looked like a replica of the first as Lakeside took a five-run lead after three innings. Lakeside scored twice in the first on successive hits by Brad May, Dave Schmidt, Rick Bielski and Paul Bazan. Bielski and Bazan picked up RBI's. In the second inning, Mike Reardon hit his third inside the park homerun of the season and his second of the evening, with John Bazan on base to put Lakeside in front 4-0. Steve Schmidt drove in Dave Sch midt with the fifth run in the next inning. Harry May's two run triple in the fourth put the Businessmen on the scoreboard. May scored on an error and Lakeside's lead was cut to two runs. In the Johnsburg sixth, four straight singles tied the score. Wayne Hiller, Jerry Brodin, May and Eric Schiller were the hitters with May and Schiller driving in the runs. Doug Jones flew out to left, but it was good for the go ahead run, May scoring from third. Mark Schultz followed with an RBI single to give the Businessmen a 7-5 lead. Johnsburg kept the heat on in the seventh as they scored another four runs. Phil Oeffling, Matt Oik and Hiller all singled, Hiller getting an RBI. Jerry Brodin followed with a two run homer, his third of the season. Broding led the winners with three hits. May and Hiller added two each. Reardon, Dave Schmidt, Bielski, Paul Bazan and John Bazan had two hits each for Lakeside Inn. Taylor Made 20 Huemann's 14 The late game on Wednesday had all the fireworks of a July fourth weekend. Taylor Made blasted 25 hits and Huemann's 21 hits. The winners scored in all but the third and seventh innings, running up an 8-0 lead after two innings, including a six run outburst in the first. Huemann's narrowed the lead to 8-5 in the third. Both teams scored 'our runs each in the fourth and three runs each in the fifth as on to their three run lead. However, a five run Taylor Madey sixth was too much for HuemAnn's overcome. Joe Ubrig went four for four to lead Taylor Made. Jim Gray and Jack Spindler both went four for five. Huemann's was led by Joe Huemann's perfect four for four, including three RBI's. Fox Hole 11 Businessmen 0 The Fox Hole Tap was too much for Johnsburg as they ran up an 11-0 lead after four innings. Mike Peterson knocked in six runs to lead the winners. Peterson included a two out bases loaded triple in the second which proved the big hit of the contest. Peterson added a sacrifice fly in the first and a two run single in the fourth. Jim Yaworksi also went two for two, including an RBI double during the Fox Hole six run fourth. Lakeside Inn 9 King's Row 4 Lakeside Inn's Mike Reardon hit his second homerun of the season in the sixth inning to put the Inn on top. King's Row then followed with four runs in the seventh, leaving the tying run on base as Lakeside Inn recorded their fourth victory of the season. Brad May, Rick Bielski and Dave Schmidt each had two hits for the winners. Bill Cable tripled, doubled and singled in three at bats to lead King's Row. Brian Mathison added three hits with a double and two RBI's. Rick Sorenson hit a two run inside the park homerun seventh inning. lwu run in 4^e Recreational Men's 12 Inch Spellman Wins First Game Spellman Chevrolet captured their first win and knocked Carey Electric temporarily out of their drive for first place, by handing them a 10-7 defeat. Carey took a 7-0 lead after batting through their line-up in th second inning. Don Hoeft's double and Joe Carey's triple each scored two runs. Hits by Doug Belohlavy, Keith Schaeffer and a sacrifice fly by Paul Diedrich added the other runs. Errors in the fifth inning opened the door for Spellman to comeback. Vic Romandine got the action underway, scoring two runs on a single. Later a double by Chris Lyyke, and hits by Mike Dowling and Bon Denley put Spellman on top. West End Pub 10 Sullivan Foods 8 West End tied for third place in the league by topping Sullivan 104. A two run double by Ron Hiller and a homerun in the second inning by Hiller helped out West End Pub. Dave Bauer hit a three-run homerun for Sullivan and Sullivan tied the score at 7-7. West End Pub claimed the win on a two-run double by Dave Boelter in the sixth. Jepsen Tire 7 River Shannon Marauders 5 The River Shannon Marauders appeard to be on their way to ending their current losing streak until a sixth inning rally gave the game in stead to Jepsen 7-5. The Marauders managed to pick up a 5-1 lead halfway through the game. Hits by Ken Schneider, Kelly Gartner, and Art Bellon each brought runs home. While a two run homerun by John Miedzianowski in the third had things looking bright for the Marauders. Early anticipation may have led to the Marauders downfall, as Jepsen Tire snared six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kevin Maxson's double began to turn the game back into Jepsen's favor as Maxson scored,* only to be followed by Tim May's two run double, and a double by Rich Gilbertson and a single by Mitch Przetacznik to allow Jepsen to take the lead for good and keep them in a first place tie with Bimbos for top honors in the league. Bimbos 15 McHenry Kiwanls Club 3 Bimbos overpowered the McHenry Kiwanis Club 15-3 to stay in the race for first place. The Kiwanis' runs came in the early innings on rbi hits by Dan Janotta and Phil Schimke, who batted a perfect three-for-three sending home two of the Kiwanis' three runs. But the Kiwanis were faced with a merry-go-round inning from Bimbos, who scored runs on singles by Don Harris, Ed Mack, Joe Carlisle, a double by Paul Walkington and a two run triple by Gary Snell. The inning netted seven runs giving Bimbos a comfortable 9-3 lead. Mack who went three-for-four in cluding a homerun, continued to pound the Kiwanis with a two run single and lata* Harris' two run double and an rbi single by Paul Adams iced the game, bringing it to an end by the 12 run rule. ALGONQUIN -- Algonquin scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge McHenry 6-5 last week Wednesday in American Legion Baseball. The loss drops McHenry record to 4- 2 and Algonquin remains undefeated at 6-0. Down 6-4, McHenry managed to put together a rally in the seventh, but fell one run short. After one out, Tim Pankewiez and Kris Teuber both singled. Pankewiez scored on a fielder's choice hit by Doug Mullen, with Teuber being caught at second for the second out. Dave Smith singled, moving Mullen to third, Mike Podpora struckout to end the inning. Algonquin took a 3-1 lead in the first inning. Both teams scored once in the second, but McHenry came back with two runs in the third inning to tie the score at 4-4. Both Pankewiez and Mullen had two hits each for McHenry. Scott Zalke was credited with a double. flfumaa And Smith .Qualify for Youth Golf Classic State Finals Tom Neuman and Brian Smith, both from McHenry, qualfied for the state finals of the Insurance Youth Golf Classic by placing in the first round held at McHenry Country Club last week Monday. The 36-hole state final will be held July 11-12 at the Rail Golf Club in Springfield. A total of 160 teenagers from state tournaments across the country will go to the national IYC to be played at the Vista Valley Country Club, north of San Diego Aug. 4-9. Rob Sullivan of Palatine was the top finisher at McHenry Country Club with a 77. Scott Wallis was another qualifyer and Meg Gorecki of St. Charles was the qualifyer in the girls' division. JUNE », 1983 VFW Men's 16 Inch Hiller Continues Rampage There seems to be no stopping of George Hiller Construction. / ^ The VFW 16 Inch A Division leader won their eighth game in as many games by whipping Taylor Made 20-8 Thursday night. The dominance of Hiller through the league is evident with having five of their players in the top 10 batting list. Hiller jumped off to a 10-0 lead in thetf first two innings and it looked like an early wipe out. But Taylor Made didn't want to die early, as they came back with three runs in the third in ning and five runs in the fourth. Hiller responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and six in surance runs in the fifth. Don Bentz provided the most power for Hillet, hitting a homerun in the fifth and two singles, with three RBI's. Jeff Meyers helped out with a triple and two singles. Paul Jacobs homered in the fourth inning and singled, knocking in two runs to lead Taylor Made. A1 Ekeroth hit a double and two singles. St. Regis 16 Palace Bowl 5 Joe Dehn proved to be unstoppable for St. Regis last Thursday night against Palace Bowl. The short centerfielder was a perfect five-for-five at the plate and scored five runs, including a double. The perfect game for Dehn raised his batting average over the .600 mark. He now has the top batting average in the league at .666. St. Regis jumped off to a 5-0 le^d in the first four innings and never let up after that. Prospect. Green-white plays in the Illinois Young Sportsman Association. Brian is the son of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Lincoln of McHenry. Green-white defeated the Peoria Strikers 3-1 to capture the title. It is the third straight state cup title by the Green-white, which is a Illinois Youth Soccer record. Lincoln contributed to the victory by scoring the green-white's third goal, while playing right wing. The goal was Lincoln's fourth goal in State Cup play. Green white now prepares to travel lo Omaha. Neb. to compete with 18 other state champions in the U.S.S.A. regional tournament.
