BARB ANSELL It was the longest game in the two year history of the McHenry Parks arid Recreation men's 12 inch lealue. In the play-off game for first place were two Tuesday night teams. Funks Plumbing, who finished in first place in last year's tournament and first place in this year's Tuesday night division, facing Cullom Knoll-Al Drywall, who ended their first season in the league in the fourth place spot. The marathon contest lasted 16 innings and more than two and a half hours before Cullom Knoll-Al Drywall wore down Funks Plumbing to finally take the game 8-7. Both teams had played earlier in the evening, eliminating two Sunday night teams before reading the final game. Cullom Knoll-Al Drywall knocked out Brake Parts 6-4, while Funks Plumbing began its night with a pitching duel against Uncle Bunky's which took nine innings before slipping past Uncle Bunky's 2-1. Cullom Knoll-Al Drywall got off to- • a strong start in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on a double by Scott Belohlavy, Bob Staley and a two-run single by Dave Clark. Funks managed to collect one run in each of the first three innings from sacrifice flies by Joe LaFon- taine and two RBI hits by Hugh McGowan. And in the fifth inning, a walk to Mike Kotiw and a double by George Cadotte, put men on the bases for John Wilkinson's sacrifice to bring home Kotiw to tie the game and Greg Bartos followed with a double sending Cadotte across the plate giving Funks the 5-4 ad vantage. But the Knoll had other plans, as Clark came through with a deep sacrifice fly to center field to bring Staley home from second with the tieing run- Neither team could do much for the following seven innings, but the 13th inning was a lucky number for both teams. Knoll's Steve O'Halleran and Tim Klapperich forced Funks into making two crucial errors, which allowed Klapperich's double to turn into a two-run homenm temporarily allowing Knoll to jump ahead 7-5. Funks matched Knoll's two runs, with two runs of their own. A single by Dale Lundius led-off the inning, followed by two walks t load the bases for LaFontaine's single to send in Lundius. A Sacrifice fly by substitute Jerry Sullivan to keep Funks hopes alive, agaiii holding the game at 7-7. Two more innings passed without a score, but in the 16th inning Staley connected for a single and Klap perich followed with a double to put men in scoring position for Clark to pick up his second sacrifice and his fourth RBI of the night, putting the Knoll ahead 8-7. Funks, with the last bat, put men on base as pitcher Mike Kotiw tried to help his own cause with a single and McGowan moved Kotiw around with his single. Funks endurance ran low as they were unable to come up with any hits, leaving two men on base and handing the top spot in the league to the newcomers. Cullom Knoll's winning pitcher Bill Cunningham went the 16 inning distance giving up only 17 hits, while losing pitcher Kotiw also endured the 16 innings, only allowing 15 hits. In the third place game, Brake Parts edged Uncle Bunky's 13-10.
