' . > / » ' « . . . . « • ^ Trade Fair offers entertainment,seminars By Jeff Waaikes Sentinel managing editor Booths manned by representatives of area huitnrsees and organizations and food by local restaurants are not the only attractions planned for Woodstock's first annual trade fair, "Business Showcase *83 --Window en Woodstock," this weekend at the McHenry County Fairgrounds. The trade fair, sponsored by the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce and In­ dustry, will also feature a full schedule of seminars and entertainment in Building B at the fairgrounds. Home improvements, fashion, cooking, karate, music and art -- you name it, the trade fair's seminar and entertainment committee members will provide it. - , The schedule of workshops and per­ formers in Building E is "to round out the activities and provide an entertainment alternative for the trade fair," explained Charie Clarke, chairman of the seminar and entertainment committee for the showcase. Friday night will be devoted exclusively to a ffrtitfrd "Basic Energy Retrofit Techniques for Homeowners -- Myths and Facts." The seminar, conducted by Crystal Lake architect Mark Elmore, will run from • pjn. to • p.m. and cover such topics as weatberization, simple solar heating methods and the economics of home energy conservation. The seminar will in­ clude a slide presentation. Saturday morning's seminar and enter­ tainment schedule begins at 11 a.m. with the Woodstock Gymnastics Academy's floor show, which will continue until noon. At noon, members of the Woodstock Gym it Sim Club will present the "Action Wear Fashion Show," a fashion show featuring athletic apparel from Woodstock Gym 4 Slim. At 1 p.m., food takes over the schedule in Building E. . Tasty samples will be available while they last ̂ Following the food, it will be time for some physical activity.. Members of Woodstock's Young Hong Karate Institute will give a demonstration from 3 p.m. to 4 pjn. The demonstration will include examples of the "breaking power" of karate, a karate weapons demonstration and a presentation on self- defense for women and children. From 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., the Slimmer? Exercise Group of Woodstock and Crystal Lake takes over Building E with a demonstration of exercises, including how to properly stretch and warm up. Saturday evening will be time for music. The local country music group PM Ex­ press will perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to wrap up the day's entertainment schedule. Art and fashion dominate the entertain­ ment Sunday, along with more music from local musicians. At 1:30 a.m., Woodstock artisan Greg McCoy will explain the "Art of Making Leaded Stain Glass Windows." At noon, Mary Ellen Marunde of the Pump House flower shop will demonstrate sift flower arranging. The Woodstock High School Band takes the stage from 1 to 1:30 p.m., followed by the high school's "Sunshine Spirit" swing choir. A repeat performance of the Woodstock Gymnastics Academy floor show runs from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Staiday, when it will be time for more fashion. "Lifestyle -- Fall '83," a fashion show featuring women's fall fashions from Ackemann's, will be on from 3 to 3:30 p.m. The show will include business, casual and dressy looks. From 3:30 to 4 p.m., Mary Kay' Cosmetics representatives will give a "Fall Fashion Forecast" on the latest looks.
