Business Showcase 83--Page 17 at fair By Kurt Begalka Sentinel staff writer WOODSTOCK -- Among the attractions at Woodstock'a first trade fair will be a display of recreational vehicles. "Beside having things inside, we wanted to have some things people are interested in to be displayed outside," said Rich Abromaitis, general chairtnan of the trade fair. Automobiles and motor homes are good for that. "Now that there has been an upswing in recreational vehicles and motor home sales, we wanted someone there," Abromaitis said. "We wanted this thing to be as big as possible." Trade fair organisers went to Elgin and Motor Vactions Unlimited for a display of the recreational vehicles. Owner Charles Dolan plans on bringing a representative sample from his 16-acres of inventory. Barth and Georgie Boy pro ducts, plus a park model trailer and an ex pandable cottage, will be open to trade fair visitors. Prices range from $20,000 to $180,000 for mobile homes, which measure from 20 to 35 feet, Dolan said. Rental units also are available. Rates range from $395 per week and 10 cents a mile, te $060 per week and 15 cents a mile. Motor Vacations simply acts as the agent for other parties, who then accrue all the tax benefits from depreciation, Dolan said. The only catch is that the motor home must be purchased from than. "Our business now is better than ever," Dolan said. The economy is swinging around and more people have money in their pockets. "Recreation is something an individual has control over," Dolan continued. Peo ple are living for today instead of "waiting for the world to be perfect," he said. Lighter models with fuel-efficient diesel engines are encouraging this trend, he added. Dolan said all sorts of people buy recrea tional vehicles. Commercial business is particularly successful to salesmen and golf pros. - ' 1 Sales manager Bob Ettleman noted that while the age of "roughing it" with a tent and wood fire is still alive, others like to take it easy. He said most people who buy a motor home for personal use are 50-years-old or over. People like not having to stop at motels, he said. There are plenty of campgrounds around, or vacationers can simply pull off into a rest station. The most popular model is called Ex- calibur, Ettleman said. This 33-foot motor home is divided into four separate rooms, complete with air conditioning and a microwave oven. Other conveniences peo ple can purchase are a full bathtub and built# vacuum. "We go out to shows all the time," Dolan said. "There is good potential in the Woodstock area."
