Johnsburg Road, with many empty shelves and an outdated scale; but still holds many memories for ber. Miss Althoff, born Oct. 16,1893 to William Frederick and Adelheide Elizabeth (Braeker) Althoff, will celebrate her ninetieth birthday at an Open House at her home Sunday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. She is the only living member of 11 children; a lifelong resident of Johnsburg; a irishioner of St. John the )tist Catholic Church; and a charter member of the Catholic Order of Foresters Court No. 777 since Feb. 6, 1918. Her deceased brothers and sisters include Elizabeth Tonyan, Bernard W., Mary, Louis, Gertrude Wagner, Henry, Katherine, Rosa Sattem, William and Bernard. In 1878 the store pictured above opened as a shoe shop, making and repairing shoes until factory shoes Decame popular in the early 1900's. It was then converted to a General Store with the shoe repair business continuing in the rear, until the death of Barbara's father in 1937. In 1906, after completing the seventh grade at the age of 13, Miss Althoff worked in the family store. At 21, she worked briefly at Bidder's Restaurant in McHenry, on the corner of Riverside Drive and Pearl Street, but soon returned to her family establishment. When the General Store closed in 1980, it marked the seventy- fourth year of employment for Barbara Althoff. The second general meeting of October will feature a slide presentation by Sue Richardson of Marengo on "A Day in the Life of a Scuba Diver". Sue and her husband have experienced many interesting moments in strange places while scuba diving. A silent auction will also take place following the meeting. Newcomers should arrive by 8:15 p.m. for a short orientation; the program and business meeting will follow. The annual Polish Night will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Wonder Lake. Various Polish dishes will be served and the hostess and her aunt will then tell about Polish customs and foods, sharing some of their treasures and costumes. Music and singing will be provided later in the evening. Call Dolores for reservations. Saturday, Oct. 29, at 7:00 p.m. is the time for the potluck dinner and Halloween party in Crystal Lake. Jennifer Lynn Schuh is baptized The sacrament of Baptism was conferred upon Jennifer Lynn Schuh by Father Edmund I^tit during a 1:30 p.m. ceremony performed in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Sunday, Sept. 11. Godparents were Jerry and Maureen Lagowski, friends of the family. The babv's attire was accented with a baptismal stole which had been hand made by her aunt, Patricia Forest of Lombard, EL. Hie celebrant was born March 12, at Memorial Hospital for fT McHenry County, Woodstock, to John and Mary Schuh, 1016 S. Lily Lake Road. She has a brother John, age 18 and a sister Kris, 17. Following the ceremony, a buffet supper was served to 60 friends and relatives at the Schuh home. Special guests included grandparents, Bill and Lorraine Schuh and Wes and Patricia Frisby, all of McHenry. Moose Lodge holds Oktoberfest The McHenry Moose Lodge 691 will hold an Oktoberfest Sattpday, Oct. 15. Lunkenheimer, Jr. embarked on a honeymoon in Myrtle Beach and Charleston, S. C. The 4>ride is the former Patricia JPattie) Schabow, daughter of Bill and Doris Schabow, 1620 N. Highview Avenue, McHenry. Bob and Lenora Lunkenheimer, 224 N. Honda Road, McHenry, are the parents of the bridegroom. The 2:30 p.m. nuptials were officiated by Father David Heuser in the Church of St. Maiy of the Assumption, McHenry. The bride was gowned for the occasion in a polysatin dress, fashioned with a fitted bodice, featuring puffed sleeves and a scoop neckline which were accented with Schiffli lace and motifs. The full skirt and chapel length train repeated the lace treatment. Attending the bride as matron of honor was her friend, Sandee Sroka of McHenry. Bridesmaids were the bride's cousins, Nancy Fowler and Tammy Oeffling, both of McHenry. Attendants were attired in rosebud chiffon gowns, styled with a tucked bodice, off-the- shoulder neckline and puffed sleeves, adorned with lace. Handling the duties of best man was a friend of the groom, Ron Clement of Chicago. Groomsmen were the groom's friend, Scott Valentin and the bride's cousin, Tom Fowler, both of McHenry. A friend of the groom, Phil Kent, and the bride's cousin, Jeff Fowler, both of McHenry, served as ushers. / The male members of the bridal party wore charcoal grey jackets, pearl grey vests, grey pin-striped trousers, white wing collar shirts and striped ascots. The mother of the bride chose a burgundy, street length dress. A mauve, sheer, street lehgth dress complemented with a float was the choice of the groom's Another. After the ceremony, a reception was held for 225 relatives and friends at the Johnsburg Community Club. their return from the trip,, the newlyweds will reside at 4108 W. Lillian Street, Apt. 1H, McHenry. The new Mrs. Lunkenheimer graduated from McHenry Community High School in 1978 and is employed as a secretary for the City of McHenry Park Department. Her husband, a graduate of the same high school in 1978 and Western Illinois University in 1982, is a salesman for S & W Sales.
