STRONG OBJECTIONS AT WONDER LAKE ••AUK 3 - I'LAINDEALER - FRIDAY. OCTOBER 7.1*83 continued from page 1 and the rap of the chairman's gavel, who attempted in vain to keep order. "f had assumed this would be a circus and that's what it is," Village President Duane Zeman said. "We don't want to argue with you," Ehlen told the crowd. "We want to come up with the information. This is a task force looking for data." When Ehlen asked the audience the number of muffi- v family units it would accept, they shouted "zero." How many rentals? Ehlen added. "Zero/' The annexation agreement which brought the 112 acres into the Village was passed in 1978. It calls for single-family housing. In 1979, the village board passed an ordinance allowing multi- family dwellings in the village. Ehlen noted there was no opposition at that time. Dan McGuire, a Wonder Lake resident for six years, was the primary spokesman for the home owners. "I was attracted here because Of single-family housing," McGuire said. He said he is afraid that the estimated $82,000 price tag for each condominium was not high enough to keep low- income families from moving in. "There " is extensive remodeling going On all over the vilteM," McGuire said. Some people are trying to increase the value of their homes, he added. Others are attempting to sell their homes and are afraid a Plan Spring Grove day Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1:30 to 4:30 the Museum of the McHenry County Historical Society in Union will be the location for an afternoon of activities centering on Spring Grove history. Records dating from the 1860's on the English Prairie Cemetery Association will also be for viewing. From the many early photographs one, in particular, will interest condominium arrangement would lower their value. McGuire presented the seven- member planning commission with a petition signed bv 324 residents. "No one was coerced," he said. "No one was sold." The petition makes the following assumptions: -"The development is "contrary to the best use of the land and is not compatible with the surrounding area." -"The density is too high and is contrary to zoning principles. -"Schools are overcrowded and the development would attract families with children that would compound the problem at Greenwood School and Woodstock High School." -"Police and fire protection would cost more." -"Traffic would increase, resulting in a dangerous condition for drivers and young children." -"•piere is no market for such a development in Wonder Lakie and consequently "it woujd never be finished.' Others charged that the project woula turn into government-subsidized homes. "You have the gun, but you haven't hurt anyone yet," McGuire told the commission. Ehlen said the commission would not address the complaints Tuesday, but would meet in the next few weeks to discuss the matter in more detail. * "We put three months of work into this project and we're not going to come up with an idea instantaneously, Ehlen told the crowd. The zoning board must also discuss the proposal and make a recommendation to the village board. "I was just amazed how people could take something nice and turn it around into something horrible," Jacobson said. "I've livedo in this community for 23 years," he told the crowd Tuesday night. "I'm surprised, shocked and hurt." Jacobson warned that the trust might have to sell the land to someone with no interest in the area. "Something will have to be done," Jacobson said. By Cliff Ward Shaw-Free Press News Service A Woodstock man was arrested Monday morning and charged with 1982 stabbing murder of Steven Feldt, according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's office. Ira Lee, 32 , 508 E. Kimball Ave., was picked up at 10:45 a.m. Monday, at his residence by Woodstock Police and McHenry County Sheriff's Police, Woodstock Police Chief Herb Pitzman said. Late Monday afternoon Lee appeared before Judge Haskell Pitluck on a bond call. Lee's bond has been set at $1 million. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Sue Fayette Hutchinson Oct. 12 to set a date for a preliminary % hearing. Lee is being held in the McHenry County Jail. According to press release issued from State's Attorney Ted Floro's office, acting on information obtained by Floro, Woodstock Police Detective Randy Beu signed a criminal complaint against Lee before Hutchinson, who issued the arrest warrant. The arrest culminated a 13 and one-half month investigation by Woodstock Police, McHenry County Sheriffs Police and the State's Attorney's office, the release said. Feldt's body was discovered in his Burbank Avenue apartment on Aug. 17, 1982. He had been dead since late Aug. 15, a coroner's jury ruled, about 36 hours before Beu discovered Feldt's body in the living room. Feldt, 29, was killed by multiple stab wounds in the aorta and other multiple stab wounds, a coroner's jury ruled last October. Feldt was employed as an auto mechanic in Crystal Lake. Woodstock Police were called to his apartment at 521 Burbank Ave. on Aug. 17 after co-workers became concerned when he had not shown up for work for two days. At the bond call, Lee, a father of two, told Pitluck that he could not afford an attorney, and Pitluck said he would assign him one. Pitluck told Feldt that if he went to trial and was found guilty of the murder charge, he could face imprisonment of not less than 20 years and not more than 40 years. Depending on the circumstances, a judge could impose a sentence of life imprisonment or possibly the death penalty, Pitluck said. MAR RAY COSTUME SHOP 3923 W.
