l'/WK 10- IMJXINOEALER - FIUDAY, OCTOBER 14,1983 m* fttn* ^PSgeneral News Lions Candy Day to help blind and hearing impaired Hold auction Oct. 18 Imagine a pie being delivered to your home by just making a phone call. This service and other items will be part of the Craft Service Auction which will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Timbers, Rts. 14 and 47, Woodstock. Proceeds go to Turning Point, a McHenry County organization to help domestic violence victims. Preview of such items as a water color paintihg, step ladder, appliqued baby quilt, and baked goods plus other interesting crafts and services to be auctioned will begin at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend and are asked to enter the lower banquet room on the Rt. 14 side of the Timbers. Money raised from the auction will go toward purchase of a movie-slide projector and screen to be used to inform people about the cycle of violence- This year the McHenry Lions Club will participate in Candy Day on Oct. 15 under the leadership of Ron Bierman, club ident, and Jim Doherty, ly Day chairman. Because the gifts of sight and hearing are so precious and so irreplaceable, the 30,000 members of the more than 670 Lions Clubs in Illinois hold Candy Day each year to raise funds to support a variety of services for the blind and deaf and for the conservation of sight and hearing. "We want to help people who already are bl|nd or deaf, and we also want to work to save the sight and hearing of everyone in Illinois," the chairman said. "It all depends on the hard work of the Lions and volunteers and on the generosity of the public," he said, "we hope everyone will respond from their hearts." Illinois Lions have a long tradition of humanitarian service . Lionism, which began in Chicago in 1917, has grown to be the world's largest service organization. In Illinois alone there are more than 30,000 Lions in more than 670 clubs, all with the motto, "We Serve". All funds from Candy Day benefit the local Lions Club c o m m u n i t i e s . C l u b s participating in Candy Day have the option of either retaining part of the funds for local projects for sight or hearing or contributing all proceeds through the Lions of Illinois Foundation, 1515 N. Harlem Ave., Oak Park, the charitable arm of the state's Lions Clubs, which administers statewide projects on behalf of the state's clubs. These statewide projects reach out into communitiies all over Illinois.
