Mary-Martha Guild slates holiday sale On Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., the Mary- Martha Guild of St. John Lutheran Church in Island Lake will be holding its annual Christmas sale. The women have been spending many, many hours working on unusual and novel, but useful, items which will all be available that day. For further browsing there will be lovely articles on the "White Elephant" table; and for good eating, lots of home baked goodies. Everyone is urged to mark the date and remember the place. Prior to being elected and installed state president, Ms. Hyatt served the state of Illinois auxiliary in the capacity of Senior Vice-president and Membership Chairman. She has served as president of auxiliary No. 2378, Berwyn and as president of the Fourth District. Committee mpmhprs for the luncheon will be the presidents of districts 1, 2, 3, 4. 5, 16, 18 and 19. Past presidents of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4600 who will be at­ tending the luncheon are Mary Fergen, Ha Hogan and Edna Olson. 'Jt i Legislative Chairman Mrs. Coons inquired about the best solution to waste management problems in Illinois. Senator Schaffer said that the McHenry County Defenders is a resear- chful and dependable group, trying to solve environmental .problems, adding that he also participates in recycling. After a short business meeting, President Carrie Hage asked Lucille Maguire to give a report on the recent state convention in Springfield. She cited excerpts from some of the interesting speakers. President Hage thanked all the officers, chairmen and members for their support during the last two years. She made particular mention of Bertha Fyfe, Recording Secretary, for her diligence in obtaining places to meet, writing up the information for the meeting to be published and taking reservations. Invite public to participate in fund raiser The Landmark PTO is sponsoring a roasted nut sale for parents' and the public's holiday use. In addition to nuts for baking and eating, the selection in­ cludes various types of fruit and nut mixes for snacks and par­ ties. Proceeds from this fund raiser will be used to purchase equipment for Landmark equipmei school. The public is invited to par­ ticipate by calling the school office between Nov. 3 and 29, at 385-8120. St. Patrick's Religious Education Program will present its firs? annual Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5 and 6, in the church hall. LaLeche League offers help The McHenry-Fox Lake La Leche League will meet Wed­ nesday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The topic for this meeting will be the "Art of Breastfeeding and Overcoming Problems". La Leche League is a self-help group dedicated to promoting ooa mothering through reastfeeding ana mother-to- mother sharing. At the meetings, nursing and ex­ pectant mothers can talk to other mothers who have suc­ cessfully and happily nursed their babies. The lending library is an excellent source of helpful in­ formation on topics such as childbirth, nutrition and breastfeeding. Nursing babies are always welcome.
