Cyanide cannister studied A 30-gallon canister bearing the label "Cyanide" was found on a roadside Wednesday, according to Me Henry Police Chief George R. Pasenelli. Hie sealed container was taken to Knox Park for storage until state hazardous materials specialists arrived Thursday to take samples. Pasenelli said the sealed container had a "rotten" odor and police were unsure of exactly what was in the canister. Ibe specialists wore self- ifned bi conta apparatus breathing to open the canister and take a sample of the material for examination Pasenelli said the canister was found on Route 120 near the west side of town by a motorist. "Many of MCIA's concerns, particularly those having to do with site suitability, have already been addressed," ac- show site is excellent, county is of the site, Stob said MCIA apparently does not acknowledge that this will be governed by the McHenry County Board's decision as which of the alternative plans will be most appropriate. "There is nothing unusual about providing options to a governmental body -and we would think MCIA should welcome this flexibility," he said. Waste Management, Stob said, does not nave "a near monopoly" for McHenry County as objectors allege. He noted the served by seven in- 90-foot garbage mountain are "certainly colorful," they are misleading, Stob said. "Objectors know we have submitted to the planning board and the consultants three plans for their consid«ation. Tfie alternative with the highest peak elevation is at 85 feet above the lowest point of Rt. 176, or about 65 feet above the existing grade at that point. It should be emphasized that none of the end use plans call for the entire landml to be 85 feet in height as has been suggested," Stob said. Stob described as erroneous a statement by the objectors that "the application indicated petitioner does not propose to fill the land." Stob said tne landfill will indeed be filled following accepted procedures for ex cavation and construction and with a minimum of 30 feet of clay between the bottom of the landfill and the nearest aquifer. Regarding the prospective life dependent waste haulers in addition to the company's McHenry-Woodstock Disposal Division. "With respect to an existing landfill in the county, MCIA might want to ask other collection companies in the county why they do not use the facility," Stob said. Stob described as "perfectly proper" attendance and note- taking by Waste Management representatives at public "in light of i circulated meetings and added the misinformation by MCIA, we believe that most people would agree it is only prudent to have a record of the comments made. "We also note that MCIA has consistently refused to allow us to address any of their meetings or to accept our invitations to tour existing landfill operations." Stob said that the company's detailed plans for the site, in cluding the results of 25 borings, are on the record for anyone to review. <?*» WHALE'S TAIL % l\ 0* ̂ Green and Pearl ftrY *V McHenry - 385-4050 \o% amen JESJ DISCOUNT mow -SPECIALS- WEDNESDAY NIGHT .
