Emergency response plan unveiled An updated state plan to coordinate emergency response activities in the event of an accident involving spent nuclear fuel shipments in Illinois was unveiled last week. The emergency response plan, formally called the Illinois Plan for Radiological Accidents, was developed by the Department of Nuclear Safety. It outlines steps for several state, federal and local government agencies to follow in the event of nuclear shipment accidents, details preparation measures and spells out inspection regulations.
