Judge resigns from 19th Circuit ------ The Honoraule Harry D. Strouse, Jr., 'hu submitted his resignation as Circuit judge of the 19th Judicial Circuit to be effective at midnight Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1983. His resignation results in the conclusion of an active 20 years of judicial ser­ vice. Roy 0. Gulley, administrator to the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois, has indicated this position will be available for fulfilment by an election from the public during the primary and general elections of 1984. As a result, no gap will occur with a successor to Judge Strouse. The program will lead off with Dr. Jim Gibb, who will address the topic "Interpreting Sire Summaries for Use in Com­ mercial and Purebred Herds." He feels that the national sire evaluation is one of the most significant factors to surface on the beef improvement scene in several decades. Dr. Gibb is the Director of Education and Research for the American Polled Hereford Association. The discussion will turn to the productioin of high-quality lean beef. Dr. Doug Parrett, University of Illinois Animal Scientist, will talk on "Feeding Cattle According to Frame Size". Following a short break, another University of Illinois animal scientist, will talk on "Utilizing Low-Quality Roughages in Beef Cow Rations". Sager feels this topic will be of particular interest to cow-calf producers who would like to reduce the cost of maintaining the cow herd. A panel of cattle feeders will be prepared to explain to the group their strategy on buying feeder calves. The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will continue through the early evening when Oliver A. Hansen will talk on " A Lender's Perspective of the Beef Cattle Industry".
