Outdoor Recreation in Illinois: The 1983 Policy Plan has been prepared to guide outdoor recreation and 4 natural and cultural resource j conservation in the state, and to maintain Illinois' eligibility to receive monies from the federal Land Water Conservation Fund (L&WCF). This 100-page illustrated plan represents a major change in SCORP format by focusing on five underlying concerns and 11 major outdoor recreation and conservation issues selected on t the basis of the SCORP public I participation program. The I underlying concerns include } funding, stewardship, user information, recreation and resource information systems and cooperation. Issues covered are economic benefits of recreation, natural areas, fishing, long-distance trails, wetlands protection, hunting, recreation for the disabled, water resources, agricultural land protection, cultural heritage and acquisition options. That is--they rode unless a driver with a long whip discouraged their plans. If a kid had a sled or got a new one for Christmas, he headed for the hills. A kid without a sled often found a piece of tin to ride down hill. Sometimes you could take a belly-flop on top of a lucky Idd whizzing by on a strong sled. Perhaps one of the worst punishments ever was an edict that no snowballs could be thrown while on the school grounds. That curtailed a lot of activity. Can't remember what girls did in the winter. Play with dolls? I wasn't much interested in girls until later years. Then--oh boy! Looking out the window and watching grade school kids run, slide and fall down makes me realize that if I did that they would either have to call the rescue squad or get a derrick to hoist me up. '4 Traditionally considered safe, stable investments, the purchase of precious metals such as gold and silver has become more risky lately because of the activities of a few questionable dealers," Edgar said. "Investors are often offered gold or silver at be|ow market prices, lMbejMirtll agree to pay up front and wait for the metals to be delivered within a specified period of time. Under the scheme, purchasers may be offered a percentage of their investment as a "rebate" if they agree to delay taking delivery of the precious metals," Edgar said.
