Create your own Christmas boxes by measuring the height and perimeter of your box (without the lid), leaving 1 inch all around for overlap. Brush rubber cement on the box and on the paper. While cement is still wet, apply wrap to the box-one side at a time, smoothing out wrinkles or bubbles. •*V-< Slit the wrap at the corners and glue top qnd bottom edges down. Measure underside of box. Cut the paper to its size, and cement in place. To cover U4^measure its depth and the perimeter of the lid sides. Add 1 inch all around for overlap. Cut paper to size Measure top of box and cut paper to its size; cement in place. Glue on bright geometrical designs made of contrasting paper. They are pretty enough without ribbon. With the holiday shopping season at hand, Attorney General Neil Hartigan offers the following suggestions to help consumers get the most for their money. When purchasing from a retail store, a shopper should know the store's policy on refunds. or exchanges. Hartigan notes that stores have the right to set their own return policy and as a general rule, are under no obligation to refund the pur- ri chase price unless there has t>een misrepresentation or fraud or unless an item is defective. Shoppers should always determine the store's policy for returning items at the time of purchase and then keep their receipts. If merchandise is purchased on layaway, the shopper should find out if there are storage fees or cancellation penalties and determine • the maximum number of payments allowed and the time limits between each payment. Hartigan says consumers should check out warranties or guarantees carefully. If the tefm8 are not clear, ask questions, such as, who guarantees the item and for how long? Are all parts covered or just some? Where must you take the item for repairs? Remember to get all verbal promises made in writing and keep the warranty in a safe place where you can easily find it if needed. Attorney General Hartigan adds that an unfortunate by product of the holiday season is con men taking advantage of shopers' "good will". Holiday consumers should be par ticularly wary of ' these situations: 1- The vacant store front operations that come to life just before Christrttas offering fabulous bargains on various goods. A shopper may end up with an inferior product and go back to return it only to find the sellers have varnished. 2 - Street corner peddlers who operate outof their car trunks or set up pushcarts in public places may also promise "bargains'̂ which later are found to be overpriced and hard to return. 3 - It's nice to be neighbor!; •i.Ui / \ TOP-QUALITY PRODUCT THAT TRIPLES CLOSET SPACE Closet Orgonixer 7 iV 4\^, A complete system in a box! Govern ment tests show that a con ventional cigarette dropped onto a sofa cushion or mat tress will continue to bum for an average of 24 minutes. Commonly used cigarette additives contribute in large part to the fire hazard, in par ticular citrates and phosphates added to cigarette paper to ensure a steady and continu ous burn.
