Nauert, has been named general chairman of the 1984 Cerebral Palsy Telethon. The Telethon will be telecast by WREX-TV (Channel 13) on Jan. 14 and 15 live from the Cherry Vale Mall, Rockford.. Nauert noted that last gear's Telethon raised nearly $15,000,000 nationally - over $70,000 in the 10-county Blackhawk Region. He noted that many pre-Telethon ac tivities are already under way, and that a strong effort was being made to surpass last year's totals. Funds raised locally are used to support services to over 600 persons served annually by the Blackhawk affiliate. A UCPBR's mission is to ad vocate for and develop services on behalf of persons with cerebral palsy and related service needs. This is done through a variety of program services provided throughout the region. The '.'Weekend With The Stars" Telethon for Cerebral Palsy offers a means to develop the resources necessary to provide needed local services, research, and education for persons with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is a group of disabling conditions that result from damage to part of the twain which controls motion. It" may be severe or mild and there are wide differences in the extent to which it disables people. It can't , be cured, but, with in dividualized planning and proper support, persons with cerebral palsy can reach their maximum potential.
