LIVELY RACES No Democrats filed to run in District 1, according to the county clerk's office. Three Republican incumbents from District 3 have filed petitions for reelection. They are Woodstock residents Ernest Foote and Ann Hughes and Harvard's Ronald Morris. GOP challengers in the district are A1 Collins of Wonder Lake, former county school superintendent Ed Hall of Woodstock, McHenry resident Robert Levin and Ed Sweiger of Huntley. The lone Democrat filing in District 3 is Lorraine Weisz of Woodstock. No Democrat announced for state's attorney or county coroner. Frank Sweeney of McHenry will seek the Democratic nomination for clerk of circuit court. Janet A. Pence of Crystal Lake filed as a Democratic candidate for recorder of deeds and McHenry Democrat Rick Bronars is running as a candidate for county auditor. Burglary discovered at local store McHenry Police are in vestigating an attempted burglary at the Hostess Thrift Shop, 3315 W. Pearl St., McHenry. The store supervisor called the police at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 26 when he noticed that a safe in his office had been severely damaged. The would-be thieves were unable to open the safe. Likewise, the intruders failed to open a cash register and left empty-handed.
