Thompson said his Small Business Ad visory Commission will hold a statewide planning conference to develop an Illinois economic growth plan for small businesses. The May 1984 conference will be preceded by a series of meetings throughout Illinois to give all sectors of the economy-labor, education, big and small business, as well as legislators and community leaders-an opportunity to offer recommendations and ideas. He is a member of Second Battalion, lfth Marine (Ar tillery), First Marine Division (REIN), Fleet Marine Force Pacific, Camp Pendleton, Calif. , Highlights of the exercise included the helicopter lift of a battery of troops and several night moves in total blacken conditions. It culminated in a simulated Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare (NBC) attack of the entire battalion, followed by complete decon tamination of all troops and equipment. During the exercise, more than 1,500 rounds of all types of ammunition were fired, in cluding high explosive, white phosphorus, illumination, and smoke. Right on schedule, the In ternal Revenue Service income tax forms arrive with the seed catalogs, both harbingers of spring. ERS forms are also available at the McHenry Nunda Library on Route 120 and Lily Lake Road. The federal government has finally done something that will save money, storage, paper and even tempers, by providing libraries with master copies of 1 all tax forms, including filing instructions. Your library will provide any needed forms. NEIGHBORS . • Mrs. Helen Novak of Ulymoor is in Condell Hospital in Libertyville, and in need of prayers for recovery from a crippling stroke. Neighbors, including the Brizzi and Vor- nkahl families, remember her kindness to them and others, and her pretty garden. Her daughters, Helen and Beverly,- are finding this a very difficult time. Then there is our neighbor Carl Stromley, who, when snow causes a driveway problem, is in ours with his snow blower, removing the stuff in which we could get stuck. Having won derful neighbors is one of the blessings of living in a Caring community. *- NEW HOMESTEAD Alma aricf~Bud Hueckstaedt spent two weeks in Arizona, returning to their home in Lilymoor on Dec. 9. The trip resulted in their purchase of a two-acre tract, complete with a four-year-old residence which .. will be their retirement home. Their address about mid- February will be Chino Valley, AZ, near Prescett. They didn't want to leave Illinois during all this nice below zero snowy weather, until the temperature in Arizona levels off to 50 plus degrees. Wishes for a great retirement go to Bud and Alma, who have spent many years in Lilymoor, raising their family of four; three of whom now live in the same block as their parents. The Hueckstaedts have always worked for the improvement of the area, and their .helping hands will be missed. But how nice it will be to have someone to visit in Arizona! RECOGNITION Harold Nixon of Lakemoor will celebrate his seventy- second birthday Jan. 5, and wishes for good health and peace go to him. Beth Goebel Baker will be 17 the same day. Jeffrey Moore Leske of Lilymoor will have four candles on his cake on the 6th. Denise Brunzo^of Parkside, who may soon have twin siblings, adds a year on the 8th. Add to your list of New Year's resolutions to call me at 385-4934, to share your special events with others in the community. As the name and phone number of the area correspondents is often not noted, a call to the Plaindealer will give the correct number/ It has been good to meet you via the column this past year, and with your input I am looking forward to an exciting 1984. GOD BLESS Wonder Lake: MANY VOLUNTEERS ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR YOU IN NEW YEAR the Here we go venturing into a new year, "1984". When we look back over the past 12 months it's easy for us to only remember extremely difficult times or the most beautiful moments in our lives. We tend to forget the everyday living that, too, was meaningful. Hope you have many great memories and that the next year is everything 'you want it to be, filled with good health, prosperity, and much happiness. NEW ACTIVITIES Now that the holidays are over you might find extra time on your hands and are looking for some new activities. For the ladies of Wonder Lake and our surrounding area, the Woman's Club of Wonder Lake has much to offer. As members of the Illinois Federation of Woman's Clubs, they contribute to the Illinois projects which include veterans' hospitals, cancer research, brain research foundati^m, Indian children scholarships, beautification and recreation-forest planting, and general federation projects, such as Care, Inc., and Gateway House. They also zero in on local projects such as water safety instructions, McHenry County Historical Society, Summer Fine Arts School scholarship, Pioneer Center, and the Woodstock Opera House. Also, they grant scholarships each spring to two worthy Wonder Lake college students. The group meets once a month on the third Thursday, at Nativity Lutheran Church, at 8 p.m. A business meeting is followed by an interesting program, along with great desserts and coffee. If you are interested in finding out more about the club, you are always invited to attend any of their meetings. For th£ men of the com munity, an active organization that also does much good is the Kiwanis Club of Wonder Lake. They meet every Monday night at Dusty's Pizza. A fine dinner is followed by their business meeting. They center around the needs of children. Each year their peanut sales provide them with needed funds to help with ac tivities such as the swimming lessons sponsored by the Woman's Olut? and needed supplies for the Boys Baseball organization. The Kiwanis is a small group of men who take on large projects for the betterment of the community. NATIVITY EVENTS Preparations are underway to offer several new exciting adult studies.
