Now, you can say, "How lucky can we get?" 7^ So I Hear by Earl Walsh The morning mail brought some interesting reading. Like an invitation to invest a few bucks and learn how to write. That one is coming too late for this week, but may be worth a look. « Seriously, I always wished training in journalism had been my lot when I was young. No such luck. Writing for a small paper was just like being tossed into a lake and told to swim. © Opening the mail is great fun even if there are no checks falling out of the envelopes. Another invitation! This one invites me to join a SINGLES CLUB. It sounds like fun, but being single is newsjp me. If they had asked me to send a picture, they would know I have that married look. morning and seeing the air full of white stuff, brought out the poetic nature in me. No time for a poem. Will just say---Beautiful, beautiful snowflakes, I'll never love raindrops again. We have a lot of animal footprints in our back forty. Think we will have to get a book and study footprints in the snow. Tracking rabbits is old stuff, but that is the limit of our tracking ability. One who knows wild animals told us a deer must have bounded across our lawn. Funny he didn't stop for lunch. We have corn out there. One sight we haven't seen in recent years is kids sprawled out on the snow, moving thWr arms to make angels. _ Rolling out of bed in the Now the kids have plastic boards to slide down hills. That's different from times when any old kind of a board or piece of sheet metal would take you down a hill. You couldn't steer them, just hang on. A contest promotion sent me two nickels to attach to entry blanks. Now, if I don't enter, what do I do with the nickels? I could mail them back, but that would cost 20 cents for a stamp. Life is full of problems. PICKUPS The smallest good deed is better than the grandest in tention. Learn from the mistakes of others-- You can't live, long enough to make them all yourself. What this country needs is a good 5-cent nickel. Glasses will _ change one's personality -- if emptied often enough. Urge special care of pets in cold weather by Flo Klemm In this cold weather, do not let your house dogs stay out any longer than necessary. And make sure they wear their ID tags, because even though the weather is cold, some of the females are now in 'heat', causing many males to wander. If you have an outside dog, feed two to three times a day, and keep the dog house in a sheltered area on the south side. •J^Helping PAWS with entrance facing southeast. And have two inches of straw or hay into which the dog can nestle. All pet adoptions must be validated by the signing of a contract along with the adoption fee which includes the cost of spay or neuter surgery from a vet of HP's choice, or, a deduction from the cost of the surgery if done by a vet of your choice.
