During communications, it was announced that a Workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m., at the McHenry County Courthouse, room 203, Wood stock, to inform the candidates, political committees and in terested citizens as to filing obligations under the Illinois Campaign Financing Act. The public is invited to attend. Dawn Miller 385-4901 During new business, the mosquito abatement program by the township was discussed. The entire board was in favor of this program which will be done by helicopter the first week of April. The larvae stage will be treated only. Treating the adult stage is too hazardous to surrounding plants, other in sects and animals. The board was also pleased with the fee. Also, Dial-A-Ride was brought up. Don't forget to call 385-5671, at least 24 hours in advance between the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 4 p.m., to reserve your ride. We now have an ESDA coordinator. His name is Jim Hoffman, and we are very glad that he has volunteered his time towards the village. The next meeting will be held Feb. 14. Why not bring your sweetheart to these informative meetings? DERBY CATCHES A good time was had by all who attended the Conservation Club's annual Fish Derby, Jan. 21 and 22. Saturday's winners in the five catergories were: Largest; Northern, 29 in. 5v* lb., caught by Brian Kluth; Crappie, 9 in., caught by Craig Workinger; Blue gill, 7 in., caught by J. Jepsen; and Perch, 6.8 in., caught by Marcus Seifert. The smallest fish of the day was a Perch, 2.5 in. vi oz., caught by Clayton Schmidt. Sunday's winners were: Northern, 24.7 in. 3% lb., caught by G. Roessler; Crappie, 11 in. 13 oz., caught by Russ Mann; Bluegill, 7 in., caught by C. Vogt:- The three-way winners each catching a 7.2 in. Perch were T. Colby, C. Colby and R. Trotti. Three winners for catching the smallest perches, 2.5 in. oz., were Steve Scarbrough, Joe Marszhal and Rodney Miller. Congratulations to this fine group of fishermen. We wish both couples much happiness always. Kindergarten registration for Harrison School, District 36, will take place March 15 and 16, at the school. A child must be five years old before Dec. 1, 1984 in order to enter kindergarten in the fall of 1984. This means that the child's birth date must be before Dec. 1, 1979. Parents should contact the school office at 653-2311 and ask that their child's name be put on the kindergarten mailing list, since complete registration information will be mailed to all known families of kindergarten age children in late February. In order to plan for future needs, Harrison School is also asking parents who have three and four-year-old children to call the school office and let them know the child's name and birth date. This is only for children living in the Harrison School district. Information concerning the pre-school screening for three, four, and five-year-old children of District 36 will be available in March. The actual screening will take place in late April or early May. There is no charge for pre-school screening, but every child must have an ap pointment. ATTENDS WEDDING John Seaver, who has been gone from Wonder Lake for the past year, arrived home just in time for his brother Paul's wedding. John is stationed at Kirkland Air Force Base in New Mexico and was supposed to be home for a week before the wedding. But the military changed those plans around and he didn't make it until Jan. 20, and the wedding took place Jan. 21. He was able td spend two weeks at home before leaving today, Feb. 1 to return to New Mexico. I'm sure this was an exciting time in the Seaver household! TIME TO APPLY Applications are now available for Wonder Lake high school seniors, present college students, or anyone planning to be a college student, for the Woman's Club scholarships. Two $400 scholarships will be awarded in April to students who are chosen by a panel of judges. In order to qualify, the ap plicants must be Wonder Lake residents who will be full-time college students next fall# The deadline for returning the ap plications is April 16. Applications may be obtained through the guidance counselors at McHenry East and West High School, Woodstock Community High School, Marian Central Catholic High School, McHenry County College or by calling the Scholarship Chairman, Neva Boyce at 653-9778. BIRD WATCH Last week, in Earl Walsh's column, he challenged my back yard with its cardinal population to his yard with a pheasant. We've gotcha again, Mr. Walsh - - two beautiful pheasants visit us along the fence which borders the corn field! We were told to catch them because they would make a delicious dinner but how could you do that after watching them strut along so proudly. Impossible!! Crime Stoppers addresses group The McHenry Area Crime Stoppers organization was pleased to make its first speaking engagement to a public service group recently. The Golden K Club, a newly- formed local group, which is a division of the Kiwanis club, invited the Crime Stoppers to its Jan. 25 meeting at Royal Terrace. McHenry Police Chief George Pasenelli made the presentation. "The program was well received," reported the chief, who reviewed the goals and objectives of Crime Stoppers. Approximately 40 individuals comprised the audience, in cluding Golden K members, residents and visitors. Two other speaking engagements have been secured for Crime Stoppers represen tatives: Feb. 20 with the McHenry Kiwanis Club; and March 13 with the McHenry Jaycees. Other groups are encouraged to invite the board to make a presentation. The McHenry Area. Crimestoppers is a non-profit citizens organization which assists the police department in the aprehension and conviction of criminals. The organization provides anonymity to in dividuals who report crimes; and cash rewards to those in dividuals if their information leads to the arrest of an of fender. No injuries were reported following two separate rollover accidents that occurred at the Route 31-McCullom Lake Road intersection last Saturday. At 1:45 a.m. Jan. 28, Belinda G. Hendrix, 5016 Hampshire, McHenry, was driving north on Route 31 when her car slid off the pavement and rolled. At 10:25 a.m. that morning, Linda M. Bartel, 235 Terra Cotta, Crystal Lake, was also driving north when the same thing happened. An estimated $1,500 damage was done to a car after it struck the McHenry Sand and Gravel fence on Route 120, near Kent Road, east of McHenry. William Obran, 1618 High- view, McHenry, was driving east on Route 120 when he lost control of the vehicle on the icy pavement. Zahida Y. Varani, 4111-B Lillian St., McHenry, was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions after she lost control of her car on southbound Crystal Lake Road, at Lillian Street. Sally J. Fox, 42483 Addison Road, Antioch, was also driving south on the blacktop when she saw the Varani vehicle skidding on the pavement. She attempted to avoid the collision, but could not. Norma J. Weyland, 609 W. Eastern Ave., McHenry, was attempting to slow her vehicle when it slid off of Chapel Hill Road, near Lincoln Road, and struck a telephone pole. No injuries were reported. Robert A. Danczyk, 2318 Edgewood, McHenry, applied the brakes as he approached a curve in Linden Road, near Chapel Hill Road, but the car started sliding. Coming from the opposite direction, Michael J. Clark, 1518 River Terrace, McHenry, steered to avoid the collision, but was unable to do so.
