The bride-to-be is a 1980 graduate of Crystal Lake South High School. Her fiance graduated frorrr McHenry Community High School in 1978. A 1984 wedding is planned. W inter is gain weight time "Puppy Love" is the theme for this year's annual St. Patrick's Parish Valentine Luncheon and Card Party, to be held Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the church hall. Ladies of the guild and the parish have acquired a reputation over the years for a well-laden buffet table, and this year will be no exception. Serving will begin at 11:30 a.m. There, also have been many donations of prizes, and the table prizes promise to be a complete surprise. There is a limit of 200 tickets for this party and they are going fast. Therefore, those planning to attend are urged to contact Helen Koblitz, Ticket Chairman, at 385-3516, as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. St. Patrick's has added a chair lift to the church hall recently for the convenience of those who would like to attend various functions but were unable to do so in the past. The public is most cordially invited to attend the Valentine party. At the last meeting of the McHenry Senior Citizens Club, those in attendance had the privilege of hearing Chief Pasenelli of the McHenry Police Department. His talk focused on the importance of senior citizens protecting themselves and their property. «• The chief suggested they watch their neighbors' property the same as they watch their own. By doing this, they can call the police for help when they see anything unusual happen in their neighborhood. The next meeting of the club is scheduled for the second Monday of the month, Feb. 13, beginning at 7 p.m. in the East Campus High School Cafeteria. The program for the evening will feature Sgt. George Corson, a member of the Safety Department of McHenry County Sheriff's Office. At the Feb. 27 meeting, the group will be entertained by one of the outstanding soloists of the area, Maureen Serritella. She advises r"H . t; i woight bas goai of one i » a n r ;' D be ir. week, caust t •< Iwo pounds per week. M > Pruett warns that cutting out fat hurts more than helps diet's. "Fats are essential to good health. Fats and oils make up about 40 percent of the calories Americans consume. Fats supply, the most con centrated source of energy of any food. They provide essential nutrients not found in any other food group and improve ab sorption of the fat-soluble vitamins A. D, E, and K. They act as a cushion for bones and organs," she says. She adds that fats have their own special dieting magic. "They enhance the flavor of food and provide a sense of fullness after a meal. This is an in surance policy to keep the dieter out of the kitchen longer bet ween meals." Animal and vegetable oils and fats make up the fat food group. In the United States, soybean oil claims 69 percent of the fat group. Soybean oil is the main ingredient in 83 percent of margarines, 62 percent of solid shortenings, 80 percent of salad and cooking oils, and more than 95 percent of prepared dressings. Americans consume between 35 and 40 pounds each year. "Adding a little margarirife, salad dressing or other oil product to a lov^calorie food will provide a satisfied feeling and keep the hunger pangs away longer," Ms. Pruett says. She offers other dieting tips as follows: 1) Eat meals slowly. It takes about 20 minutes after food is eaten for it to begin to satisfy hunger. 2) Cut out calories by eating smaller food portions. 3) Eat fiber foods such as lettuce, fruits and raw vegetables. 4) Replace snacking with nonfood activities. 5) Serve meals on small plates tg cut spryiffig f 6) Drink a glass or two of Reservations for meals at the McHenry Walk-In Center for the week of Feb. 13 through Feb. 17 must be made by calling 385-8260 by Tuesday, Feb. 7.
