I walked into the store with my little orange, box full of coupons, grabbed a shopping cart and went on my way. The prices were about the , same as where I usually shop, so Coupon Clipper I decided not to worry about my budget and go all the way with my coupons. I filled up one shopping cart, put it on the side and took another one for my meat, produce and dairy. When I was all done I brought both carts to the checkout counter and started unloading them. The cashier finished ringing up my purchases. They came to $96.46. I handed her my coupons and started praying that I wouldn't be over my budget. Well, when the cashier finally finished deducting my coupons, both of our mouths dropped. My final total came to $16.43 in cluding about $2 in tax! I just couldn't believe it. It was heaven! I paid her with refund checks, of course. My husband was so thrilled he decided to take me out to dinner! - Stacy Burckhardt, Raceland, La. Dear Stacey: Double coupons are "coupon heaven!" The supermarkets that started of fering double coupons a few years ago were mostly in suburban areas outside major cities. But double cdupons are so 'appealing to consumers, that today even supermarekts and groceries in small towns have begun to offer them. To avoid being disappointed, especially if you have to drive a long distance to a store that's offering double coupons, I suggest that before you grab your hat, call the store and first find out if there are any restrictions. For instance, it wouldn't make mu,ch sense to drive 25 miles if the store was only doubling four coupons. Stores can write their own rules for double coupons and the most common is a restriction on maximum value. Many stores limit the value of the coupons they will double to 50 cents. If you have a higher value coupon, your discount is limited to the face value. What happens if double the value is more than the price of TA0,«> w m ^ m m m m HARDWARE STORES More than a name. ..it's our way of doing business Choice* 1.00 MECHANIC * Paper toweh not included IxIMn. This occasionally happens when you have a high- value coupon for an item that's on sale. Usually the store will only double the coupon up to the price of the item. Your 50-cent coupon will only be doubled up to 89 cents if that is the price of the item. Very few stores, carry double coupons to the point where you get the product fee and change to boot! Some stores limit double coupons to one coupon for each type of item you purchase. For instance, they will only double one Green Giant green beans coupon and one Sarah Lee pound cake coupon. If you have six coupons for each of these items the extra coupons are accepted at a face value. When double coupons come to your town, you have to move fast! You can count on it being a race to the shelves, especially for those items with high-value coupons. Here's a refund form to write for: .A $2 Refund, NEUTROGENA $2 Rebate, P.O.
