SECTION 2 - PAGE 4 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, MARCH 2, 1984 ScKools ® Registration for Johnsburg is closed REACHING OUT--The second grade class of St. John the Baptist School held its annual Flea Market to raise money for the "adopted godchild" in Honduras. Each year, under the direction of their teacher/ Mrs. Anne O'Donnell, these students provide support for this 8-year old boy. Pictured above are Rebecca Wheelock, left, and Karen Fowler. Census of pre-schoolers Johnsburg School District 12 will be holding a registration and census for all chidren born between Dec. 1,1978, and March 14, 1981, and who have not yet entered kindergarten. It will take place at James C. Bush School Wednesday, March 14, and Thursday, March 15, according to the following schedule: March 14, from;. 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and March 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Those unable to come at any of these times are asked to call 385- 3731 (Bush School) to make other arrangements. This registration and census applies to all pre-school children ages 3 through 5, even if the child has been registered in previous years. School officials are hopeful that all parents of children 3, 4 and 5 years of age will register during these two days. Parents will receive important in formation about diagnbstic screenings at the registration. Also, an accurate registration and census is necessary to plan an educationally and fiscally sound kindergarten program. Birth certificates for all children registering for this fall's kindergarten will be necessary for registration. As the first phase of planning for the 1984-85 school year at Johnsburg, students recently completed the course selection process. Several activities were involved in student registration. Class meetings were held to distribute registration materials to students and to preview the registration process. At these meetings, representatives from the various departments described options open to students in various career fields. Over 200 parents and students attended the second annual Parents Curriculum Preview Night. Again at this event, the registration process was described, and advice given on the selection of courses to fulfill graduation requirements and to prepare for specific careers. Finally, in the most critical phase of registration, each student met individually with a counselor in the last three weeks to choose courses for next year. At these sessions each student completed a career folder which asked questions about his-her career plans, reviewed credits earned to date, and chose courses that would assist the preparation for his or her personal goals. Candi Kilcoyne awaits her interview as AArs. Sandy Freels and her daughter. Annette, discuss 1984-85 career selection options wiih counselor Denny Spraetz. This thorough process, educators say, exemplifies the importance the school places on proper career planning. Course selection they feel, is the most obvious way a student prepares for a career. The school is pleased with the excellent response both students and parents had to this program. Again this year several parents stopped at school to discuss their son's or daughter's career and course selection. The school encourages this activity in the future and welcomes any inquiries one may have about course selection or career planning.
