Bolger, county CWA administrator, received a telegram from Frank D. Chase, state administrator, reducing McHemy County's CWA quota from 402 to 342 or a reduction of 60 men. It will be effective Friday. While no definite in structions have as yet been received, it has been announced at Washington that the Federal Administration plans to have the CWA force of workers in the United States commpletely demobilized by the end of March. Hie ladies of the M.E. church will serve a Lenten supper at the church March 15, to which the public is invited. There are bills which have to met and the ladies are preparing for a large crowd and plan to serve a delectable menu consisting of meat loaf, scalloped potatoes, deviled eggs, macaroni salad, pie, bread, butter, coffee, pickles at 35 cents per plate. When the last day of filing for precinct committeemen in McHenry county came to an end March 2, it was discovered that only three G.O.P. contests were to be waged in the April 11 primary. In McHenry one, Earl Whiting and Clyde Carr will oppose each other; in McHenry two. E. W. Gorman and Gerald Newman compete; in Nunda one, John Barrings and Harry Wright are seeking the post. AU other precinct committeemen have no opposition. Two well known county of ficials, Vincent S. Lumley and Theodore Hamer died over the weekend. Mr. Lumley was former state's attorney and Mr. Hamer was a well known lawyer, and served for 16 years as circuit clerk. wice 25 YEARS AGO (Taken trom the mes of March 5, 1959). The congregation of,Faith Presbyterian Churcfi is com pleting (dans to move into its first church home, a one-story structure near the corner of Johnsburg and Lincoln roads, opposite the outdoor theatre. The building will consist of a 125 seat sanctuary, with facilities for church school classes in the basement. The Rev. Jack Mclntyre is the organizing minister of the young McHenry church, which now meets each Sunday morning at 11 o'clock in the business office of the Countrylane Home Builders in Eastwood Manor. A comparatively light vote of 260 votes found a $78,500 school building bond program for Harrison School at Wonder Lake approved. A total of 144 votes were in favor of the proposed structure and 112 were opposed. There were four spoiled ballots.. Herbert Harrison of McHenry has been elected president of the McHenry County Board of Realtors, succeeding James Cbnndl. 10 YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 8, 1974). Hie Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted to oppose the RTA referendum. It was the feeling of the members that McHenry County, and specifically the city of McHenry, would derive little if they benefit from the RTA proposal as the law is presently written. The Chamber also endorsed the voluntary even-odd gasoline purchasing program that was presented to the City Council. Effective March 18, McHenry will be serviced by the O'Hare Wisconsin Limousine on a daily basis. McHenry is one of three cities in the county to be in cluded on the route. Approval for the bus through McHenry was made by the Illinois Commerce Commission following a hearing Dec. 18. William Dumalski of McHenry represented the city in making a request for service and proved to the satisfaction of the ICC that the need exists. general yoi IOI ai News McHenry man arrested following dispute at home Public demonstrations of maple syrup production A domestic disturbance resulted in the arrest of a McHenry man recently by McHenry County Sheriff's Police. William Clark, 26, 3718 Millstream, McHenry, was arrested after he reportedly struck his estranged spouse at her residence during an argument. Additional charges of resisting a police officer and possession of cannabis were also brought against Clark. Bond was set at $3,000. In another matter, Earl Smith, 45, 5418 Woodland, McHenry, was arrested and charged with battery after he allegedly struck his wife during a disagreement at the home. Bond was set at $1,000. Thomas Blake, 37, 5012 Ashland, McHenry, was arrested for driving under the influence and improper usage after his car was seen reportedly traveling in an erratic manner on Chapel Hill Road. Bond was set at $3,050.. Scholarships offered The McHenry County Health Im provement Association (HIA) is now taking applications for its annual scholarship program. This year, two types of scholarship will be offered. Nurse scholarships will be of fered to high school graduates, either boy or girl, from McHenry County. Special public demonstrations of maple syrup production will be conducted at McHenry County Conservation District's Coral Woods Conservation Site on Saturdays, March 3 and 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Sundays, March 4 and 11, from 1 to 3.p.m. District staff and volunteers will be on hand to explain the syrup making process. Visitors may stop any time during these hours to see tools used to tap trees, various types of sap collecting vessels, and the FOR ABOUT evaporating pan. They'll also be able to taste the raw sap and to sample the syrup after it has been boiled down. Participants should be dressed for the weather and be prepared to walk a half mile back to the syrup area along a dirt road.
