Welcome 10,000th baby Daniel Justin Smola, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Smola, Wonder Lake, was the ten thousandth baby to be born at Northern Illinois Medical Center (McHenry Hospital). At 11:22 a.m. on Feb. 24, Susan Smola and her husband were informed that they had a seven pound, fifteen ounce son, who also happened to be infant number 10,000; The milestone baby was delivered by ob­ stetrician Boon Charoenying, MD. Daniel has a five-year-old sister, Gina, to help take care of him. Grandparents are Mr. anH Mrs. Robert Riordan, McHenry, and Mrs; Victoria Smola, Wonder Lake. To commemorate this historic event/ Daniel Justin was presented with gifts from several area businesses. Northern Illinois Medical Center presented the Smola family with an Illinois Medical Center engraved pewter plate noting the baby's birth, length, weight, and the honor of being the ten thousandth baby to be born since the nursery opened in 1962. Vacancy on Conservation board The Planning & Zoning Committee of the McHenry County Board will accept ap­ plication from anyone interested in being recommended for appointment to the McHenry County Conservation District for a five-year term from June 30, 1984 through June 30, 1989. The trustee must be a resident of the county and not hold any public office or be an officer of a political party. The trustess for the conservation district serve without pay. Meetings are held on the first qnd third Thursday of each month and orespnt appointees will be considered, for reappointment. Application forms are available in the County Board offices,. KATHY HALSTEAD A native of West Union, Iowa, she graduated in December, 1983, from Iowa State Univer­ sity, Ames. There she received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics education with a minor in fashion mer­ chandising. While in college, Kathy worked as a summer Com­ munity Resource Development Aid with the Iowa State University Extension Service, she also completed a fashion merchandising internship and student taught high school home economics. Kathy comes from an active 4-H family. She and her four brothers and four sisters have been, or are presently members of the Iowa 4-H program. Also, both of her parents have served as volunteer 4-H club leaders. Working at the McHenry County Extenson office in Woodstock, her duties involve providing leadership for the development, organization, and implementation of 4-H and home economics programs which meet the needs of both youth and adults in McHenry County.
