The organization, which sponsors special events throughout the year to benefit the hospital, also presented its calendar of ac tivities and services for the coming year, and discussed the auxiliary's role in developing an expanded volunteer service for the new hospital, scheduled to open in June. Helen Golbeck, director of affiliated services and the volunteers, addressed the issue of recruiting new volunteers from all age groups to staff the special services being developed by the hospital and the auxiliary. "We will be going from 136 beds to 195 beds," she said, "and this will mean a greater need for men and women to add to the patients' comfort, assist the new departments in the hospital, and staff the gift shop and in formation desk," Auxiliary president Gloria Sprague praised the men, women, and teens who work as volunteers and coordinate the popular annual events sp- sonsored by the organization. "This is a creative and dedicated group," she said, "and we are inspired more than ever to be of service to Northern Illinois Medical Center. The list of 1984 events is our most am bitious to date, and we utilize the many talents of our auxilians to the fullest." Among events planned are the lecture luncheon series, annual golf play day, an autumn gala, a special Christmas Happening and participation in events for the opening of the new regional medical center. The auxiliary also sponsors the Pink Lady Gift Shop and the Pink Door Thrift Shop. New board member elected at the meeting was Virginia Covalt, replacing Martha Dignan who retired from the board. Re-elected to two-year terms were Betty Ames and Saundra Clark. Other board members for 1984 are Gloria Sprague, Lois Krebs, Irma Templeman, Jill Olszewski, Ruth Staveteig, Sue Wirfs, Jane Althoff, Lillian Bolger, Voni Ferguson, Callie Harms, Wynne Roy and Christine Udstuen. Nora C. O'Malley president of Northern Illinois Medical Center, thanked the auxiliary for its contribution to the growth in service and community in terest in the hospital. "Your efforts on our behalf are im measurable," Miss O'Malley said, "and your group is one of the greatest resources a hospital has to perform a wide range of services for both patients and staff."
