Genoa City Police Chief found dead _ . B I SECTION 2 - PAGE 11 - PLA1NPEALER - WEDNESDAY. MARCH 14, 1984 Genoa City Chief of Police Ronald E. Warrenburg, 37, was found dead of a gunshot wound at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, in his office. "We don't suspect any foul play," said Detective Clay Hansen of the Walworth County sheriffs police. "We are looking at two avenues: a possible ac cident or a self-inflicted (wound)." The village clerk discovered the body and called the sheriff's department. Hansen said police found Warrenburg's .357 caliber handgun lying on top of a ftHng cabinet, approximately 10 feet from the body. The pistol was partially removed from the holster. A bullet also had "blown through the bottom portion of the holster," Hansen said. "We feel it was his own weapon that was fired while still in the holster," Hansen added. Warrenburg was found with a single bullet wound in the chest. Hansen theorizes that the distance between the body and the weapon could have been caused by the impact of the bullet or movement by Warrenburg. "In 10 or 20 seconds you can do a lot of things," he added. The autopsy report and evidence were sent to the regional crime lab in New Berlin, Wis., for analysis,, Hansen said. The Walworth County coroner's office and sheriffs police are conducting a joint investigation. Warrenburg, a Burlington resident, was Genoa City chief for two years. Prior to that, he was a member of the Burlington Township Police Department for 11 years, Hansen said. "It was a shock for everyone around here," Hansen acknowledged. "We're stun ned." Information sought on Crystal Lake arsonist This week Crime Stoppers is seeking information on three fires set by an arsonist in Crystal Lake during January. Shortly after 5 a.m. on Jan. 6, someone set a fire in the hallway of Coventry Club Con dominiums. Although the residents were evacuated without incident, smoke and fire damaged the building. About two hours later, the interior of a car parked in the 600 block of Nash Road was gutted by fire. Someone had ignited items stored inside the car. Twenty days later, on Jan. 26, another car interior was burned. This car, located in the 600 block of McHenry Avenue, was damaged when articles left on the seat were set ablaze. Items torched were destroyed by the flames and the interior was damaged by smoke and heat. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for in formation leading to the arrest and filing of cri*wi»"»i rime 459*4800 against offenders. If you have any information on these three arson-related fires, or in formation on any other crimes, call Crme Stoppers at 815-459- 4800. Crime Stoppers, which is sponsored by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, assigns secret numbers to anonymous callers who provide in formation. If there are arrests, the Crime Stoppers board of directors then meets to determine an ap propriate reward. REMNANT CLEARANCE CARRY THEM OUT * 34 HOURS ONLY * BE THERE WHEN THE DOORS OPEN AT... The session will be held Wednesday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. The post home is located at 240 N. Throop Street in Woodstock. Hie McHenry County Board presently provides aid to in digent vets through the county veterans' organizations. Many of the organizations, such as the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, no longer find this method prac tical. They feel that this system, which has been in existance since 1932, is outmoded and underfunded and is no longer responsive to the immediate problems of veterans in the county. A series of discussions among the various veteran groups has brought to light the various shortcomings of the present system and has focused at tention on the creation of a modern agency responsible for providing assistance to veterans in need. A veterans assistance commission would fill this need. The commission would be run by veterans for veterans according to state statues, and its superintendent can be elected only by commission delegates who must also be veterans. Two guest speakers will be present at the planning session; John Carr, superintendent of the Kane County VAC and Richard Lane, Superintendent of the Rock Island County VAC and northern region vice-president of the Illinois Association of Veterans Assistance Com missions. All veteran organizations in McHenry County are urged to attend. Each unit should be represented by its commander and its Bogardus administrator or service officer. These representatives will become the delegates and alternates to the commission when it is formed. While a commission's mission is to assist all veterans in the county, delegates to the VAC are strictly limited to members of federally chartered veterans' o r g a n i z a t i o n s . T h e organizations in McHenry County which meet these requiremments are The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Veterans of World War I (Barracks), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the Polish Legion of American Veterans.
