SECgOT^^PA^ 14, 19M general News Observe agriculture week Plans for 1984 Health exposition National Agriculture Week will be celebrated March 16-22, with events planned throughout the nation to recognize America's leading industry. Illinois takes pride in acknowledging its superior role in the production of food. Agriculture in Illinois affects everyone. Each person is a part of the food system, along with supermarke t ; checkers , restaurateurs, processors, truck drivers, producers, seed dealers, and others. Illinois is a leader in the nation's agricultural produc­ tion. It is number one in ex­ porting agriculturalL wrn^ modi ties. It is among the leaders in the production of corn, soybeans, pork, beef, swiss cheese and muenster cheese. Illinois can be proud of its high quality food products as well as high production figures. Illinois farmers produce the nation's best tasting meats. Corn-fed Illinois beef is rated the world's finest while the pork and poultry and excellent in taste. Livestock by-products cannot be overlooked either. A large part of Illinois' work force, 20-25 percent, is employed in jobs relating to food produc t ion , p rocess ing , distribution, and transportation. Mikie Cunat, chairperson of the 1984 Health and Fitness Expo met recently with Fran Olson of the McHenry Chamber of Commerce and Kathy Spyrnal of McHenry Hospital to view final plans for the Expo which will take place Saturday, May 5, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Parkland Junior High. The Expo is the annual service project of Pi Alpha and Xi Kappa Iota Chapters of Beta Sigma Phi, members of which have combined their efforts for the entire family. Programs on a variety of subjects will be presented by guest speakers throughout the day. Scheduled programs include Ann Clark a 74-year-old Chicago resident who runs marathons, and Detective Gary Wigman's program on Drug Awareness. Other health and fitness businesses and organizations will be located in booths through the Parkland Junior High School gymnasium. Admission is free. Families are invited.
