Coupon clipping system saves time By June Fuller Dear June: If the food section of any local newspaper has a particularly worthwhile section Of coupons, I try to buy six or more copies of the paper. But clipping all the coupons was very time consuming until I started to use a new clipping system. I now pull each paper apart and stack like sheets, the pages with the coupons. I line up the same sheets and clip or staple them together. Then I cut out the coupons six at a time, making sure to leave a quarter of an inch margin around each coupon to ensure that my cutting will give me the entire coupon. The job that once took almost an hour each week now takes me just minutes. - Ann Beattey, Foster, R.I. .Dear Ann: Thanks for the time-saving tip. Coupon Clipper One of the reasons why I have a good inventory of the coupons I need is because I use this rule of thumb: If the food section has at least 75 cents worth of coupons I can Use, I try to buy as many newspapers as possible. Our local paper costs 25 cents, and this way I have instantly tripled my money. Even the wiz kids on Wall Street would marvel at that kind of financial performance. After tripling my money, my "earnings" are far from over. There are usually a few dollars worth of coupons in each paper that I can't use. But I know people who can y my neighbors and members of the coupon club I belong to. I can trade off a dollar or two's worth of these coupons for coupons I can use. So, my savings from each paper will usually be $2 to $3. Not bad for a 25-cent investment. I should also add that I have recently been holding on to high- value coupons, even when I can't use the product. With these coupons I am able to get the smaller size item free, or for just a few cents when a store , offers double coupons. I now give these items to programs that distribute them to people in need. Lenore Larson of Laurel Springs, N.J., writes to tell us that when she gets a good buy on crackers and pasta products and purchases a dozen boxes, she has found a great place to store her bargains. She stores them in her suitcases. "The suitcases protect these products from insects, and they are out of sight," says Lenore, "but they are also relatively easy to get to. Consider it this way," she says, "suitcases full of groceries don't take up any more room than empty ones!" SMART SHOPPER AWARD The Smart Shopper Award goes to Judy Walton of Dodge City, Kan.: "Here's my first home run! My local store had double coupon days, an I used a Banner 50-cent coupon. They doubled it so I got the package of toilet tissue free. I found a refund form and sent in the UPC symbol, and received a coupon for another free package. Inside that second package I found an offer for another free package - all it required was proof of purchase from that same package. That makes three rolls free! How's that for banfier savings?"
