Should studies show that a landfill is the most practical method, 1 would propose that only waste from McHenry County be accepted at that landfill. Regardless of the final waste disposal system developed, the county must be in control of the operation. 2. "The courthouse expansion is a multifaceted problem. The courts need additional space, our jail is overcrowded and storage for county records is in an emergency situation. I believe the best solution is the building or purchase of a combination garage-storage building which would allow the sheriff's garage to be removed from the courthouse. This would solve several problems at the same time without a large capital expenditure; cold storage from the county records, a garage for the sheriff's vehicles and instant new space inside the courthouse. Phase two woud be an addition to the jail area and court system. 3. "Agriculture is the largest business in McHenry County and the Year 2000 plan as ap* proved calls for its preser vation; which I support. To assia| in this preservation, I woum advocate promotion of agHrculture-associated in dustries, i.e. meat, dairy and food processors and there is available in the unin corporated part of the county and within the municipalities vacant, zoned property for personal housing and com mercial and industry to cany us to the next century. The projection for the remainder of the century calls for about IS percent of the land in McHenry County being used for non- agriculture use. It is my opinion that what I suggest here not only preserves prime farm land, but also encourages the expansion of our current industry base the the promotion of new industry in the county. However, there is a commission presently studying this problem and in all fairness to them, I think they should be allowed to complete their study without outside interference. Once their report is in, then those who sit on the county board must face their sibilities and arrive at a solution. 2. "It is apparent that additional space is needed to conduct county business. Assuming this to be true, then it would be my recommendation that whatever expansion is done must be at the least possible cost to the tax payers of this county. We do not a Taj Mahal to conduct the business of the county. 3. "Agriculture is a prime in dustry in our county and I am firmly convinced that we must preserve the prime agricultural land. We should also do everything we possible can to promote this prime industry because of its importance. Preservation of the prime agriculture lands might very well effect the settling of certain industries in our county, but I do feel that we can still have economic growth. It may not always be easy, but a county board, working together with interested citizens, businessmen and farmers, can indeed ac complish this growth. DEAN C. CUNAT Dean C. Cunat, 3200 W. "Having personally looked at incineration, composting, landfill and recycling, all op tions will leave a residue that must be disposed of in McHenry County. I hope our study will show us the best way. 2. "Last year as chairman of Courthouse Operations, our committee recommended and received approval to remove the garage, stored records and coroner's office from the present building to a new structure on the courthouse site. I feel this will free up enough room to allow at least five years to plan our next expansion. 3. "The NIPC projection of population increase is over 50 percent by the year 2005. This will put pressure on county government to rezone prime agricultural land but a number of factors will help. There are approximately 9,000 existing home sites in the county at this time, not counting those in in corporated areas. There are also thousands of acres of non- prime land that make more desirable home sites throughout the county. The largest user of prime farm land will come from city annexations. Preservation of prime farm land will have no effect on industrial growth. NAME BRAND 13" COLOR TV Non- Remote Remote SAV! SAV!!
