ANNIVERSARY Having your fiftieth an niversary pass by with very little recognition, made memories of their wedding all the more poignant to Helen and Bob Donovan of Lakemoor. March 1, 1934, during the heart of the depression, Bob and Helen were married in West Frank fort, 111., using the $2 lent by a friend as payment for the license. They had no place to stay and no money for food, just the blue sky above. The local "walkathon" contest promised a prize of a home to the winning couple, so the new Mr. and Mrs. Donovan decided to try for it. Helen kept up the rigorous schedule for 32 days and Bob lasted 34 days, but not quite long enough to win the coveted prize. Their anniversary did not pass unnoticed, however, The congratulatory card arrived from the White House, signed by President and Nancy Reagan. And then, on Saturday, March 10, Helen and Bob's son Burnell, on the pretext of taking his parents out for dinner, stopped at the Moose Lodge on the way. Helen and Bob went inside with Burnell, and when hearingi-he shouts of "surprise!" the an niversary couple nearly fainted. What a lovely party! Bob said he had had one thrilling moment before in his life, but this one topped it! Among the guests were Helen's sister and her son from Harrin, 111., and her brother and his wife from i Tuscola. Their three grand children were present and among the local friends who signed the gifted guest book were Marion and Hal Vornkahl, Joan and Wally O'Brien, Peggy and Bill Hendricksen, Kathy Kelley, and Joe and Edye Fitts, former residents now living in Marion, 111. A delicious family style dinner was served, with music played by a DJ and recordings. Bob and Helen were on cloud nine as they danced the "Anniversary Waltz". Son Burnell's cham pagne toast was "What can I say --fifty years tells it all". The cake was beautiful and the evening was the frosting on the Donovan's fifty years of memories. _ CELEBRATIONS Jason Schmidt has his seventh birthday March 16. A very i special birthday is awaiting Debbie Vornkahl as her seventeenth year will be celebrated on the 17th of March. Debbie's aunt Adeline who is also her godmother, has asked other family members to join in the festivities. Also having a birthday on St. Patrick's Day is Patricia Fay Dawdy, who will be four years old. Neighbor Stanley Schuft will be lifting a few a little slower on the 18th.
