There were no high towers nor electric power used so that vlisteners-in were con fined to the four walls of the building, but those who were within hearing distance were much elated over the splendid program-all in fun- with several local attendants ex pressing their appreciation to the host for his thoughtfulness in providing an excellent lunch and "McHenry Lager" all free. FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 30, 1944) Among several McHenry soldiers doing a splendid job in the signal corps is Norbert Mauch, who hails from Rib Lake, Wis. Norbert came to McHenry in 1940 and for two years was employed as ar chitect for the Alexander Lumber Company. During that time he made many friends who hope for his return to our city following the war. For the past few months he has been at Robins Field, Ga., where he is doing drafting work for the radar school of which he is a faculty member. While little can be told by those who are working with radar, we do know that it is one of the newest and most important branches of the service. Always fond of music while in McHenry, Norbert was an active member of the civic choral club. Joe Gausden, son of Mrs. Adelaide Gausden, is home from Corpus Christie, Texas, with his "wings of gold'. Winning approval by a margin of 49 votes, the Johnsburg community was assured an addition on the public school in the near future. It is expected that ground will be broken for the new addition in about six or eight weeks. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of March 27, 1974) The Montini School Board was informed at its March meeting that St. Patrick's Parish Council requested an $8,000 reduction be made in its assessment toward the school for next school term. The Council suggested this could be done by cutting costs or in creasing tuition for next year. President John Coughlin said that no communication had been received from St. Mary's Parish Council regarding the proposed budget but he expected it was in a similar situation.
