Go. 1 of the McHenry Town ship Fire Department and the county police were called to the scene w where a car driven by Cary G. Schroeder, 5406 Highland, McHenry, and another vehicle collided. Schroeder said he was driving north on River Road and saw a southbound vehicle weaving on the roadway. As he approached, the southbound auto veered into his lane and the collision oc curred. The driver of the other car was listed as Jeffrey A. Vagrinec, 8407 Balder, Cary, but he later denied being the driver. Vagrinec told county police he picked up a hitchhiker and let that person drive. The hit chhiker then reportedly left the scene. Vagrinec and two passengers in his vehicle, Brian M. Francis, 908 Manchester, Cary, and Daniel E. Craig, 148 Woodstock Ave., Cary, were taken to McHenry Hospital for examination and treatment of injuries. Hie accident occurred at 2:23 a.m. March 18. Icy roads contributed to a number of collisions on McHenry area roads over the St. Patrick's Day weekend. Roy E. Waldrop, 518 Tia Juana, McHenry, was driving east on Route 120, near Hillside Lane, when his car was involved in a collision with another vehicle. Waldrop told county in vestigators he saw two vehicles spin out on the roadway and applied the brakes. The Waldrop vehicle slid to the shoulder and then re-entered the roadway, skidding into the westbound lane where it struck another auto. The driver of the other vehicle was Joan Parker Johnson, 610 Silbury Court, McHenry. A passenger in the Johnson vehicle, John Kenneth Johnson, of the same address, was taken to McHenry Hospital. Terry W. Brock, 602 S. Meadow, McHenry, was driving east on Bull Valley Road when he was unable to keep the car from skidding into the Barreville Road intersection and striking another car. The driver of the other car was Phyllis A. DeBerry, 1204 Hollywood, McHenry. While the vehicles were in the intersection, a third auto, driven by Robert B. Hunter, 34740 Iroquois, McHenry, slid into the intersection and hit the Brock vehicle. Hunter was cited by county police. Kimberly Miller, 4304 Crestwood, McHenry, was driving south on Route 31, near Johnsburg Road, when a nor thbound vehicle crossed the center line. She swerved to avoid the collision, but lost control of her car, which struck two guardrails. No injuries were reported in a two-car collision on Lincoln Road, at Charles Street. Todd F. Rhode, 2410 Fairview, McHenry, was driving west on Lincoln Road and was unable to negotiate a a curve and struck another vehicle. The driver of the other car was Matthew R. White, 2404 Edgewood, McHenry. Cindy Kitterman, 1619 Joyce, McHenry, had slowed to make a left turn on Wilmot Road, at May Avenue, when her car was struck in the rear. The driver of the other car was Michael J. Dalan, 3417 Ivy Lane, McHenry, said he applied the brakes but the car skidded on the snowy pavement. No citations were issued. Joseph G. Besker, 8918 Pine, Wonder Lake, was driving west on Route 120 when a half-dozen deer ran onto the roadway near E. Wonder Lake Road. LONG BEACH Police seek robbers a < Plaindealer news service McHenry County Sheriff's Police are seeking information on a home invasion and robbery that occurred this weekend in Marengo. Police report that Ronald G. Zehe, 46, 21604 Pleasant Grove Road, Marengo went to the home of a neighbor, where he was confronted by two armed intruders. The intruders, described as two male Hispanics, one armed with a shotgun and one with a knife, bound Zehe with rope and electrical cord. Zehe's wallet Unruly customer arrested A disturbance at the Village Squire Restaurant, 4512 W. Elm St., McHenry, resulted in the arrest of Wisconsin man. Donald S. Zabski, 42, Route 1, Trevor, WI, was charged with disorderly conduct after police were called to the restaurant. Police said Zabski reportedly was abusive and used profane language toward employees at the restaurant. McHenry Police arrested Jeffrey D. Opalecky, 3939 W. Main St., McHenry, and charged him w i t h b a t t e r y f o l l o w i n g a disturbance at the residence. In other arrests: -John L. Baxley, 2423 W. Riverside Drive, McHenry, was arrested on a c o u n t y p o l i c e I warrant for failure to pay a fine. -Terrence J. Boro, 24, 902 Florence, McHenry, was charged with driving under the influence and im proper lane usage following a traffic stop. --County police arrested Joseph Hiller, 43, 3708 St. John's, McHenry, and charged him with driving under the influence and i m p r o p e r l a n e usage last weekend. Cash stolen McHenry County Sheriffs Police are investigating the theft of jewelry and an estimated $190 from the home of Henry Kloss, 1108 F l o r e n c e , McHenry. was taken during the incident. The two then burglarized the home bf Charles Kallal, 7619 S. Route 23, Marengo. One of the offenders was said to be heavy-set, about 175 pounds, five-foot-six in his mid- twenties, with a thin mustache and beard. The other was also in his mid-twenties, about five foot-10, 120 pounds also with a thin mustache. The two drove away in a light blue, four-door, mid-1970's vehicle.
