PAGE 4-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, MARCH 23, 1984 BKnSnr̂ rrthereTTT^™^™ Business G Wilhelm named employee of month at hospital Single women are factor in real estate market Single women are now a major factor in the real estate market and that trend is not expected to change. Beginning in the late 1970s, the number of single women buying homes increased noticeably. Much of the upturn was at tributable to the Equal Credit Opportunity Act of 1974, which prohibits creditors from discriminating on the basis of sex or marital status in any aspect of a credit transaction. An amendment to the Fair Housing Act, passed in 1974, also prohibits sex discrimination in housing and home financing. These measures insure that women cannot be denied credit on the basis of marital status, sex, race, age, intentions of child-bearing, alimony, or child support. However, some women may not be aware of all of their credit and housing rights and could become the victims qf discrimination. If you believe that you have been the victim of discrimination, contact an at torney. In fact, most home sales in volve the participation of women in sharing mortgage responsibilites. With higher home prices, it often takes two -incomes in or^er to qualify Condominiums, particularly in high security buildings, are most popular among single women in urban areas. Elsewhere, smaller, older homes are the choice. This isn't surprising since most first time buyers lean toward more af fordable housing. Scott Wilhelm, printer at Northern Illinois Medical Center, was selected as the hospital's February Employee- of-the-Month. He has worked at the hospital since November, 1972, and has served in several departments and worked every shift. "When I started, I was in environmental services (housekeeping), and then worked as the groundskeeper and in the warehouse. For the past three years, I've run the print shop, and find it challenging and interesting." A special bonus for Scott as a hospital employee was meeting a co-worker who became his wife. Dianna Wilhelm is an assistant cook in the nutritional services department, and Scott ugrees that finding her was a definite on-the-job benefit. They have a daughter, Sara, 21 months old, and Dianna's daughter, Mellisa, 11. A lifelong resident of McHenry, Scott makes the most of the outdoor recreation available here, and is an avid golfer and fisherman. His newest hobby is photography, and he enjoys the creative outlet this activity provides. In commenting on the honor of being selected by his co-workers as employee-of-the-month, he said, "I was totally surprised when people walked in and told me I'd been picked for this. It's great, and Ltyish it could happen to everybody." As employee-of-the-month Scott received a silver engraved pen and pencil set, a paid day off, dinner for two at an area restaurant of his choice, and a certificate commemorating the honor. Employees reciving this honor must be nominated by their co workers, and are considered to have given exceptional service to the hospital, worked to im prove both personally and professionally, upheld the standards of the hospital, and dedicated themselves to fulfilling hospital goals and objectives.
