The two-day conference of the 100-member Task Force established last year will be held at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Springfield. Members will review and discuss each of the nine com mittee reports that have been submitted to Rock and Hartigan and released to the public for reaction and comment. A final report of findings and recom mendations will be adopted and forwarded to the General Assembly, the governor and other high state officials. Rock and Hartigan said they expect a comprehensive legislative package to be one of the key elements of the final report, along with other recommendations for improving the way toxic waste is controlled in Illinois. "This conference will culminate the most exhaustive study of hazardous waste ever undertaken at the state level," Rock said. "We have received testimony from more than 200 individuals: representatives of citizens' groups worried over the threat toxic waste poses to the en vironment, spokesmen for the waste-generating industry it self, experts from federal and I l l i n o i s E n v i r o n m e n t a l Protection Agencies, law en forcement and fire protection officials who are in the trenches enforcing regulations and responding to emergencies, and scientists and academicians.
