SECTION 2 - PAGE 2 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY. MARCH 28, 1984 ^Fjffgeneral^^™ Views Successful refunder finally convinces a friend By Jane Fuller De Career planning at MCC Attending a two-part career planning session at McHenry County College is a good first step to take in trying to make decisions about the future. During the first meeting, members of MCC's Counseling Department administer a test designed to help the individual assess his or her interests, experiences, abilities and values as they relate to future training and employment. The second meeting is devoted to interpretation of the results of the test. The counselors aid participants in understanding how the results printed in the personalized score report can be utilized to help the person draw conclusions about themself. The next scheduled career planning session is Tuesday, April 3, 7-10 p.m. in Room 144 at the college. Interpretation of the test results will take place Tuesday evening, April 24, beginning at 7 p.m. It is imperative that registration is completed prior to the testing date so that testing materials can be obtained for each participant. There will be no at-the-door registration. The deadline for registering for the April 3 session is Monday, April 2. Register in person at the college Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 5:30-8:30 p.m. or Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. $1.00 OFF REGULAR ADULT ADMISSION WITH THIS AD! My first month I saved $45. By getting all my coupons, forms and POPs organized, and by finding form trading partners, I steadily improved, and now my savings are as much as $150 a month. I have been so happy with the results of my refunding that I started to turn my friends into refunders... all except one. This very close friend dismissed the idea by saying she worked and had a 3 year old and didn't have the time to "bother." The time spent refunding hasn't bothered me with my two small children at home, but you can't force people to save money. Well, just to show you how things change. Last week my friend called to tell me she is again pregnant. She said the first thing on her list of priorities is to have me teach her how to refund! When people see how much can be saved, they take notice. Then, it's just a matter of starting them off at the right time. Thanks for your help in making me a successful refunder - one able to influence these new recruits! -- Paula Newman, Las Vegas, Nev. Dear Paula: Thanks for the letter. I am promoting you to master sergeant in charge of refunding recruits. Keep up the good work! Dear June: Last fall I went to my first refunder convention in New Jersey. It was wonderful. The convention was well run, and although there were several hundred people, I didn't feel crowded: There was even a separate trading area for refunders who wanted to smoke. I came home from the con vention with $123 worth of new refund forms for products I use. Within a week I was able to send for 39 refunds! I also came home with the names and addresses of several people with whom I intend to trade forms by mail. For your readers who have deliberated about going to a coupon and refund convention, my advice is to wait no longer. Not only will it be profitable, but you'll also have a lot of fun. - Cheryl, Mt. Laurel, N.J. Dear Cheryl: Refund con ventions bloom in the spring. I join with you in urging readers to attend a convention if one is being held within convenient traveling distance. If it is your first, be sure to save extra refund forms to take with you to trade. Most refunders display their trading forms in magnetic style photo albums. Don't forget to dress comfortably. The SMART SHOPPER AWARD goes to Karen Wahl of Cleveland, N.Y.: "A store in our town had 6.4-ounce Aim tooth paste on sale for $1.04.1 had two 25-cent coupons, which the store tripled. The tubes cost only 29 cents each. A few days later I was surprised to find a $1 refund that asked for only two Aim proofs of purchase. Was I Dleased! ARE YOU NEW IN THE McHENRY AREA?
