Judge Herrmann decides Maynard case SECTION 2 - PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER - WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28. 1984 i Georgette Bran Plaindealer newt service Kenneth and Joyce Maynard cannot detach five acres from Alden-Hebron District 19 to annex it to Woodstock District 200, according to a court ruling. Judge Roland Herrmann of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court ruled last month that the Maynards had "not carried their burden of proof beyond a showing of personal preferen ce." For about the past two years, the Maynards have sought to detach the property at 11718 Thayer Road, Woodstock, which borders the two districts. Arrest for DUI An auto traveling in the wrong lane on May Avenue resulted in an arrest by McHenry County Sheriffs Police. Edward Stravel, 51, 3808 Spring Grove Road, McHenry, was arrested for driving under the influence and improper lane usage. Bond was set at $3,060. McHenry Police arrested Armando Aguayo, 32, 8923 Woody Trai l , Wonder Lake, for driving under the influence, driving in the wrong lane and driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop March 24. In other arrests: -County police arrested Kenneth Sundwall, 39, 7205 Seminole, Wonder Lake, for driving with a suspended license, no valid registration and open liquor in a motor vehicle after stopping the vehicle for a missing taillight. -Thomas Ket- chum, 19,3317 Pearl St., McHenry, was charged with having open liquor in a motor vehicle after his car was stopped by county police for driving errat ical ly on Johnsburg Road. -Mclfenry Police were checking a report of a suspicious vehicle on Radcliff Court and arrested John M. Bolger, 17, 1304 BarrevOle Road, McHenry, for purchase and ac ceptance of alcohol and having open liquor in a motor vehicle. The Maynards contended it was in the "best educational interest" of their children to attend the Woodstock schools. They have said one of their three daughters might qualify for gifted programs in math and language areas - areas in which District 19 provided no specific gifted classes. In a hearing before the Regional Board of School Trustees in June 1982, the Maynards also tried to convince trustees that their ties were to Woodstock and not Hebron and that the family truly had sup ported the educational system through volunteer efforts. T%e regional board voted to grant the detachment request. But af ter an at torney for District 19 contested the validity of the vote, it was ruled that four affirmative votes were necessary for the detachment , approval. The vote was 3-1. Herrmann stated in a memorandum dated Feb. 24 that the Maynards presented "a great deal of evidence to which the Court may be sympathetic." But District 200 "does not offer educational programs for which petitioners qualify not found in their current district," Herrmann stated.
