PAGE 4-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY. MARCH 29, UM general News McHenryites hope for successful fishing trip Pre-natal exercise group at Easter Seal center I got carried away fofMeBen} so much space thai set aside. Maye ANOTHER A pre-natal therapeutic exercise program is an oo-going ooce-a-week effort at the Easter Seal Therapy Center, 708 Washington, Woodstock. Every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., Lois Parez, registered physical therapist, conducts an exercise program-tailor-made to each mother-to-be. Prior to starting the program, the therapist spends time with each registrant and conducts a simple, comprehensive evaluation. Individual programs are designed for a total group' effort. Throughout every phase of the program, brief cbscusskms are held giving rationale to each step of the program and rein forcing the benefits of exercise to both mother and baby. Participation in the program requires a written prescription from your physician. As it is an ongoing effort, expectant mothers are urged to join as soon as possible. By this time the fiah hSve probably been eaten, but stories linger on. ANOTHER Grade Steinsdoerfer told us where our pheasant landed. The beautiful bird parked himself in their garage on Riverside Drive. They closed the door, caught the bird and released him in Moraine Park. We thought the bird had wound up on somebody's dining table. ANOTHER Ed and Agnes Thennes wrote from Arizona telling they had no rain in February, but the temperature was ideal. They enclose^ interesting sports clippings from various baseball training camps. (At that time the Cubs hadn't begun to fight.) ANOTHER St. Patrick's Day got me thinking of a little. Polish girl who worked in the paste-up department. I called her "Irish". Another one of my girls who from Ken Boley** native now residing in Ken is interested in the .Historical and Genealogical Room in the McHany library ahd. is also interested in the MfcHenry County Historical 'tfwety. So I Hear by Earl Walsh Here is one amusing story about Ken's grandfather, Gottlieb F. Boley, who operated the Mcflenry Brewery from 1880 until his death 9D 1900> »" "There was a kind of family legend which jokingly said grandfather worked for the brewery until they owed him so .much in back pay that ttjey. gave him the brewery.: It turned out not to be a joke. FROM I DINNERS DAILY AT S 'mi __ I called note for hack pay, with a mortgage on the laewery as collateral. On default of the note payment he foreclosed. The txtweij was sold at a Master in ' Chancery sale, and he bought it for $1,399.14 in 1880.'* ANOTHER This catch-up list will probably take me through another column. Guy Disney, a Whispering Oaker, told that he is not a newcomer to McHenry. He came out here from Chicago back in the Model T days. ANOTHER From a reader: '"A couple of Qld time thoughts ' ' have- crossed my mind which you can use (leave me oqt of it). •x One was^ttte-practice of flashing ' i on the movie screen before the . show started a slide 'Ladies, please remove your hats'. And while on the subject of lids what ever happened to the caps we always wore as kids, and the polite boy on the block was the one who tipped his cap when passing a lady acquaintance. When did you last see a young boy with a cap on in the summer time? "Another memory of old time McHenry was the joint that ' Diamond Joe Friend operated during prohibition. I believe it was above the store Joe Regner ran which might have been •Smith Brothers at one time. "That .would have been Will ahd • Louis, the uncles of Leo and Huppy, and the store was moved across the street when Walter Carey.rebuilt the building which was, <destrt)yed by" fire • about November, 1926. The bowling alley run by Emil Geier and Earl Monear was beneath. . them." Somebody once told me how one theater owner handled the hat problem. He ran this notice on the screen: "The management wishes to spare elderly ladies the trouble of removing their hats". There wasn't an elderly lady in the house. Hats off! r That's all the catch-ups. Now, I'm on my own to wind up this column. Ate-" H Election Day has passed and good candmates went down the drain because the vote was split by too many- can didates in the race. An idea. I »*rink Alvina should get a recipe book together that specializes in preparing left over meals. (Must admit I like them). Met EIRoy Fitzgerald at McHenry Country Club enjoying the corned beef and cabbage. Said he knew something was wrong when I missed the McHenry-Johnsburg basketball game. SUDDENTHOUGHT: . It was enough to see-grown men hugging each other. TtowJ&s have-' taken' to tossing* Wn*t iis this world coming tp! . ' We were pleased to accept Ed Guettler's invitation to the newly organized Kiwanis Golden Key charter day celebration. Ed (Mr. Kiwanis Himself) was the MC for a very nice program presented to a large crowd. Winding up the program, Maria Guettler and her daughter, Sally Roth, wowed the crowd with musical en tertainment: Sally can either belt out a song or sing it softly. Some girl! PICKUPS: . . . Women ought to make good umpires. They never -think a man is safe when he's out. * It takes a smart feller to know when he's had enough before he has had it. HOLD AUDITIONS Auditions for Gingerbread Lady, a serious comedy by Neil Simon, will be held Sunday and Monday, April 1 and 2, at 8 p.m. at the PM&L Theatre. The theatre is located at 877 Main Stre# jji-downtown Aflfeoch Cast needed includes several men and several women of varing ages. Barb Miller of McHenry is the director.
