MANDATE WONDER LAKE DAM continued from page PAGE 3 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY. MARCH 30, 1984 1 valuation, ftHmhuHnfl taxation. In the past both individual property owners and the association were charged. It takes effect July 1,1964. TMs-could have a substantial impact' on Wonder Lake property associations. For example, Highland Shores paid $214 last year in taxes on its community building, according to subdivision treasurer Joe Janeczko. Janen represents the Galena Territory Association in the IALC. The association's 2,200 members live on the rimes of 220-acre Lake Galena. Like Wonder Lake, stttation is a major problem. Property owners recently paid 130,000 to dredge 25,000 cubic yards of sQt from the lake. Both the Galena Territory and Apple Canyon Lake property owners have dug silt basins. The latter dug seven such basins, ranging in size from four acres to a half acre, and .costing between $4,000 and $10,000, Mann said. He added that 200,000 cubic yards of sflt has been removed to date, funded by a $135-per-lot assessment. The MPOA formed a com mittee earlier this month to study the costs of dredging the west bay of Wonder Lake. Frank Higgens, director of Wonder Center and MPOA representative to the IALC, praised the group for jts work. He added that joining the group would help give the area clout. Collins, a losing candidate in last week's county board elec tion, said the secret to representation * is unity- Something he believes is lacking in Wonder Lake. "There are too many personal conflicts," Collins said. "That's what is strangling our entire area, this dissension. We should all be working together. The MPOA could be a body of in fluence, but the way it's turned out, it is just a paper tiaer." general News STANEK continued from page 1 Sunday at Four musical series sets piano, trumpet recital Marguerite Faulds, pianist, and Tom Reed, trumpeter, will present a joint recital Sunday, April 1, at 4 o'clock at Bethany Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. Well police it a little better this year." "Some of our problems have been spillovers of adjoining liquor establishments. Be a watchdog group for me," he encouraged the group. "If you see something outrageous, make a note of it. It may not be too late to remedy it even this year." Hie mayor, however, turned the tables back on the parents, claiming they, too, have responsibility in preventing alcohol and drug abuse. "I know peer pressure is the greatest problem we have. I know what you go through with adolescence. If we heap praise onto our children, and instill confidence in them, it will go a long way."
