For Snoopy trades his helmet and his shades for a sweatband and sweatshirt to become the world's wildest flash dancer on "It's Flashbeagle. Charlie Brown." airing Monday. April 16 on CBS. For his latest passion. Snoopy changes his whole life style. He spends hours each night primping in front of a mirror -- meticulously blow-drying his hair, brushing his ears, splashing on cologne and choosing his clothes. He even sets up his own sound system just outside his dog house to practice his show-stopping steps. His feverish nightly routine forces him to sleep late every morning, much to the dismay of Charlie Brown, who laments. "You don't do any of the things that a dog is supposed to do. like bark at strangers or bring me tn the paper in the morning or bring me my clippers at night." Finally. Snoopy's discouraged owner concludes. "There's nothing worse than owning a dog who isn't a dog." The special, written and created by Charles Schulz, uses a technique called rotoscope to produce Snoopy's fancy footwork. Producer Lee Mendelson explains. "Marine Jahan. who doubled much of the dancing in the motion picture 'Flashdance.' was brought in as a model for Snoopy's numbers. She was photographed in a dance routine, and Snoopy's figure was drawn over hers." Mendelson. however, had to overcome some complica tions. "Snoopy doesn't have long shapely arms and legs like Marine." he notes, adding, "but he does have those long floppy ears, which add a new dimension. That's one area where Marine just can't compete." • IW UMTCD FCAfUU SVNMCAIt Peppermint Patty lead* her friends in a spirited aerobics routine on the latest Peanuts special, "It's Flashbeagle.
