SECTION 2 - PAGE 4 - PLAIN DEALER- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 18, 1984 general News $1,312 balance in council's annual report Recycling Week is a good time to start the practice The Governor of Illinois has proclaimed the week of April 22- 28 to be Recycling Week. To celebrate this week, the McHenry County Defenders will be giving a free spruce tree to all participants in their drive, Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The recycling drive will be held in the parking lot of McHenry Community High School West Campus, 4724 W. Crystal Lake Road. Co-sponsoring the drive will be the Cub Pack 142 of the Valley View P.T.O. There are some 40 boys, ages 8 to 10, in the troop. With the help of their parents, they will be on hand to unload cars, sort bottles, crush cans, and load paper onto the truck. Helping things go smoothly at the drive will be their job. The Cubs plan to use their share of the revenue for their general operating expenses: purchasing awards and badges and paying the costs of their outings, according to Ray Jensen, pack master. Readers can help the Scouts, the Defenders and themselves by bringing the following items to the drive: Newspapers (do not include magazines or junk mail), used motor oil, "tin" cans which have been rinsed and flattened, glass containers with all plastic and metal removed, brown paper bags and card board tied into manageable bundles, and aluminum scrap of all kinds. Those who bring 100 percent aluminum cans to be recycled will receive 33 cents per pound if they are crushed and 31 cents per pound if uncrushed. A bonus of one cent per pound is paid for lots of more than 100 pounds. For further information about recycling or how your organization can participate in a future drive, contact a Defender representative at 385-8512. BOND RATES Governor James R.
