Dick Klemm (R- Crystal Lake) reminds hunters that the Department of Con­ servation's deadline for taking applications for firearm deer hunting permits will be Monday April 30. Klemm said the 64,000 permits authorized for 1984 will be allocated by a Department of Conservation lottery later this year. Bow hunters may also apply for archery deer hunting per­ mits this year, but the April 30 deadline does not apply. The number of bow hunting permits will not be limited, making a lottery unnecessary. However, bow hunters should wait no later than Sept. 1 if they want to receive permits in time for the opening of archery season Oct. 1. Firearm hunting is prohibited in Kane, Cook, Lake and DuPage Counties. "Hunters may find all this paperwork time-consuming, but it is necesary," Rep. Klemm said. "Wildlife poaching is a serious problem in this state, and careful regulation of hun­ ting is needed to prevent it. The department is responsible for conserving a stable population of deer and other wildlife in Illinois." Klemm said firearm deer hunting season will be on the weekends of Nov. 16 through 18 and Dec. 7 through 9. Bow hunting will be allowed from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, although it is suspended for the weekends of firearm hunting in counties where firearm hunting is allowed. Both firearm and bow hunting permits cost $15 each. The bag limit is one white-tailed deer by firearm and one by arrow. The purpose of Organ Donor Awareness Week is to alert people to the critical need for transplantable organs and tissues and encourage them to sign organ donor cards. Among the organs and tissues currently and successfully being tran- - splanted are the kidney, liver, heart, pancreas, lung, cornea, bone, bone marrow, inner ear bones, and skin. The waiting lists for organ transplantation grows daily. There are 7,000 people waiting for kidney transplants on the national level. Over 500 of them live in Illinois. Another 300 Illinois residents are waiting for cornea transplants. Every day, 200 people wait for hearts and livers throughtout the country. Those wishing to donate organs after death should sign a Uniform Donor Card or the donor portion of their Illinois drivers licenses. All new and renewed Illinois drivers license have had an organ donor card imprinted on the back since July, 1982. One merely signs on top of the plastic with a ball point pen. » Anyone of any age may sign a donor card. Minors under age 18 must have a parent or guardian serve as a witness. Those signing donor cards have three choices: donating whatever organs are needed; donating specific organs; or donating the entire body to medical science. People wishing whole body donation should contact the Demonstrators in Chicago. It is not possible to donate organs (with the exception of the cor­ neas) and then give the body to medical science.
