So with that in mind, the Warrior coach sought a winning formula like a chemist. When it was over, his formula didn't win a title, but it came closer than anticipated by Boland. Using a formula that used the most of the squad's experience and young talent, the Warriors finished third in the Relays held at McCracken Field. The Warriors scored 78 pcrnits, bowing only to track powers Hoffman Estates (118) 4nd Kaneland (79). "We sat down as a staff (coaching staff) and looked at the kids. We spent some time on it. Anytime you hold your own meet, you want to do well," said Boland. What Boland did was to use the strength of His most proven distance runners and the talented, but inexperienced sprinters. The veteran distant runners of Brian Wright, Marty Koleno, Terry Harth and Chris Creutz helped McHenry to two firsts and a second. His junior, sophomore afad freshmen sprinters of Greg Garde, Doug Suchomski, Jeff Szamlewski, Curt Justen, Jim Shavers and Keith Losch figured into two firsts and two seconds. All this took place during an uncharacteristic two-day affair. A computation of windy, rainy conditions, sprinkled with lightning forced McHenry of ficials to stop the meet until Saturday morning. The post ponement was the first one for the relays since 1978, tohen the meet was snowed out. Only the low hurdle shuttle and the frosh-soph 880 relay were run when the meet was stopped due to lightning. Not long after, it began to rain hard. Within 20 minutes the rain stopped, but the cinder track was full of water. However, Lake Park and Schaumburg were unable to come back Saturday due to another scheduled track meet. Even without Lake Park and Schaumburg, Saturday's con tinuation of the relays featured some good races. One of those races was the sophomore sprint medley. In that race, the Warriors tied with Lake Forest ' «. Continued on peg* It ' •J \ c. Jim Shaver puts his hand behind his back to receive the baton during the frosh-soph 880-yard relay. Controversial call hands McHenry 4-2 FVC loss By Mike Lamb Plaindealer sports editor Brian Wilson looked like a man who was just robbed of all of his possessions. Put, actually hisj>a§eball squad just lost a 4-2 decision to t/he Woodstock Blue Streaks. It wasn't losing that hurt so much, but how it was lost. It was a second inning umpire ruling on a fly ball hit by McHenry's Brad Snyder that gave Wilson and his squad the robbed feeling. Along with that robbed feeling, the Warriors saw their record fall to 1-3 in the Fox Valley Conference. It WOW! rMIS MATCHED SLEEP SETS' V l PRICE .
