By June Fuller I've heard it said that all good things must come to an end, and there are some coupon clippers who occasionally worry that the cents-off coupon may become (me of those things. Well, if you're one of those worriers, you can relax for another year. Last year turned out to be another record- breaking year for manufac turer's coupons. The people who do most of the coupon counting, the A.C. Nielsen Co., recently reported that 142.9 billion coupons were distributed 1983. Offer arthritis self-help Coupon Clipper Under the guidance of Easter Seal Occupational Therapist Jean Majewski, an arthritis self- 't instruction program with follow- !; along pamphlet and time with a therapist is underway at the therapy Center in Woodstock. The low-cost program takes 45 minutes, 30 studying the booklet and watching the slide presentation, and 15 with Majeski answering specific questions or concerns. The program is designed to provide many answers to concerns of individuals struggling with the disease. There is a nominal charge for ' the program including the booklet and time with the therapist. For more in formation, or to schedule an appointment to view the presentation and have time with the therapist, phone Easter Seals at (815) 338-1707. Where are all these coupons coming from? Just open one of the Sunday metropolitan newspapers and watch the color coupon inserts fall out. Another place where we found more coupons last year was in the mailbox. It used to be that Coral Wright had an exclusive on sending coupons to us in the mail. Not any longer. John Blair Marketing and several other companies that specializeJ in coupon distribution are now mailing out millions of coupon packages each month* f All those coupons added up to a lot of clipping and checkout counter redeeming last year. A.C. Nielsen says that shoppers handed cashiers 5.5 billion coupons in 1963. At an average value of 30.5 cents a coupon, that added up to more than a billion and a half dollars in savings for smart shoppers. If you aren't receiving at least $4 or $5 in coupon savings each week at the supermarket checkout counter, then following these simple tips will get your savings moving in the right direction: First, start clipping! What should you clip? Anything and everything that looks like a coupon. As soon as you are done clipping, separate your coupons into two piles, those coupons you know you can use, and those that you will trade or give to friends. Do you have a coupon wallet? That's step two. Put the coupons you want to use in a coupon wallet and remember to take it with you on your next trip to the supermarket. Until you get your wallet, use an old envelope; the coupons go inside and your shopping list can go on the outside. You see, organized couponing really isn't hard at all. With a little effort you can save hun dreds of dollars-and it's all tax free. Here's a refund form to write for: A Coupon for Free Tooth brush; a $1.50 limit. Free REACH Offer, P.O.
